Golf Resort Suggestions

Hey all,

Looking to take the wife on a vacation this year and she agreed we could do a golf resort, lol. Since I've never even played a course outside of Tennessee I have no idea what is good and bad. So hoping some of you more experienced fellas can help me out.

Price: I'll look at anything less than $3,500.

Prefer it to be in a place where there are a lot of other things to do besides Golf. The wife doesn't play so need to entertain her and friends after my round is over.

The other preference I have is that it be in East/South East area. If I am going to spend more $$ I'd rather it be on the resort itself and not the plane tickets.

My wife and I like to take golf vacations. A few places we've been and liked enough to return are:

1. Villas at Grand Cypress. Right smack in the middle of Orlando and all its attractions, but so cleverly secluded, you'd never know it while sitting on your veranda with a glass of wine. Jack Nicklaus courses; Comfortable, mostly adults; Top-flight services all the way around.

2. Scottsdale, AZ ... if you can stand the heat. We've been there twice in the month of September and temps still topped out at 100 or more most days. Once we stayed at the Fairmont Resort once, the other time at The Phoenician. Both have relationships with area courses. Good shopping and other stuff to do locally. Nice restaurants in the area as well. Definitely 'pricey' compared to Orlando area.

3. Biloxi, MS. Beaches, golf, casinos, nice restaurants, southern charm, historical type stuff ... what's not to like. We love it there. Golf is ridiculously inexpensive, beaches are clean and water warm. Casinos are nice if you like that sort of thing. We've been to Biloxi twice and are planning a late summer (heat and humidity!) trip back. This area is more than a great value, IMO.

Few choices I can recommend based on being at #1 3 times, #2 twice and going back to #3 for the third time.

Good choices. Even though I live in Orlando, I'd go with Scottsdale. The desert is beautiful and the golf is outstanding? Consider The Boulders. http://t.theboulders.com/Photos#amenities+activities Get a casita.... You will NOT be disappointed. More importantly, neither will your wife! :-)

You might have a better chance of the wife agreeing to a 2nd golf vacation if you ask her to name 3 places she would like to go and then figure out what nearby course you would like to play at (and possibly stay at).

Thanks for the tips! As for the heat.. well having been to Iraq and back, heat doesn't really bother me! lol.

The Greenbrier in West Virginia is within easy driving distance, and from what I've seen there are tons of things to do besides golf. Might also want to take a look at Pinehurst in North Carolina. Beautiful area of the country.
