I've focused a lot on a good inside out swing lately that two things have started happening to me. One is I'll hit push, no fade just blocked right, this happens with both driver and irons/wedges. The other is a hook with driver only, not a pull hook, the ball starts out going right but turns hard left. Is there something I need to do that will fix both these? I think the hook comes from over compensating for the push. I tried weakening my grip but then I ended up too open at contact and hitting a push+fade.

You may have too much lateral movement. If you find your trailing hip slides back and then though the ball it can lead to a push or a hook. I used to have this problem but i read Tigers book and he said to feel your weight on the inside of your right foot on your backswing. Helped alot. you want to rotate not slide.

Whenever I block it right it is because my lower body is "getting ahead" of my upper body. That could easily happen if you are focusing on the inside to out path.

Are your divots pointing inside to out? ie is your swing path overly inside to out?

If that is the case, your driver hook is probably as you suggested from flipping the wrists at the last moment in an effort to avoid the block.

A lot of things can cause a push.  You may be getting too far inside and are getting, "stuck".  That would explain why you either block it right or you flip the wrists and hit a big old hook.

I used to suffer from this problem and found that more rotation is what fixed it for me.  I focused on having the feel of my right knee catching up to my left knee on my follow through and finishing with my weight on the outside edge of my left foot.  That should give you rotation and help you to not get stuck.

The good news though is that having a push means you are really close to having a great, powerful swing.  You just need some small tweaks to get your push straightened out.

Thanks for the input guys, it's nice to know that I have the right idea about what is causing my problem. Now it's just a matter of applying the fixes and hopefully shooting better scores.

That was the key for me.  I had too much of a slide and it caused me to get stuck.

I have noticed a bit of hip slide right to left to right in my swing and wondered if that is causing my timing issue along with getting stuck.

Make sure you're talking about an actual hip slide and not a head that's tipping back.

That's partially why I went ahead and set up a lesson to get a better idea of what my problems actually are instead of just guessing, that and to get a true fitting for a driver. I really want to start eliminating things that I "think" are wrong but aren't and working on the things I don't even know are wrong, ha.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
