Driving has always been a better part of my game.  However, lately I have been fading and slicing it.  But I have found a temporary fix by playing the ball all the way forward off my toes!  Before the ball was opposite my heel.  Has anyone got an idea what has happened here please and how I might go back to my old ways?

I fought with the same issue and never found consistency.  I took lessons this year and I worked on a concept of "hanging back" in the downswing.  What I actually found wasnt so much the feeling of hanging back in the downswing, but tilting a bit more away from the ball in the setup position.  I would advise trying putting the ball back where you previously had it on the heel of your foot, and on your setup tilting from the waist up only, with your head about 6 inches behind the ball, and maintaining that position thru impact.  It took me about a month to get comfortable with this position because man oh man did it feel weird, but my results have been fascinating to say the least.

I stopped slicing all together and I only pull the shot left if I swing too fast, but about 60-70% of the time, the ball goes in the general direction I was aiming.  The illustration of adam scott illustrates what im talking about.  Hope that helps...

I took a lesson from Paul Holtby who won Big Break IV in Ireland. He told me that with the new drivers, it's now new to tee up the ball higher and off your toe. The reason is because shafts are longer these days and you have to account for a longer shaft by moving the ball further up towards the toes instead of the heel. Now, if you play with an older driver then off the heel is correct.

I always found ball off the toe lead to a slice and ball position in relation to the heel leads to hook for my swing.

I don't position the ball off the feet normally its off the upper torso, usually off the sternum.

Unless I try to an intentional slice or hook, then I position the ball just in front of the left toe or just in front on the left heel respectively.

Along with mvmac's posting and link, see this to confirm. Mike's link also shows how to adjust to hit a draw when the ball is placed on the shoulder socket i.e.. big toe...

The videos etc explain what I am doing now.  And it does not seem to be a bad thing.  I am going to try some of this stuff in the week tho and will see what happens.

That s interesting video by Grant Waite In always confused by ball position Makes sense that it should be related to shoulders Whenever I position the ball to my feet particular the toe I hit it fat and if I position the ball to my heel I top the ball
