For those who were wondering about my lack of posts this past week...... no, I wasn't dead in a ditch, just a little summer getaway.

We love the mountains, and try to get up to the North Georgia / Tennessee area a couple of times a year.  Peace and quiet, and some fine fly fishing for trout.

How about you?  If it's not golf-related, where do you go and what do you do to relax and unwind?

In David's bag....

Nice try Des.  "Sorry honey, I had no idea there would be all of these golf courses near the wineries.  Honest.  But since they are here, and seeing as how I "forgot" to take my clubs out of the car before we left, and how I "accidentally" made a tee time for this afternoon, you wouldn't mind spending a little alone time by the pool, would you?" ;)

I've been called out...

Truth? Did not bring the clubs on the first round to these venues (like the golf phrasing?).

But after taking a 4 day trip to SoCal several years ago and seeing the courses, I thought, "leave the dating to another time, and bring the clubs."

Besides, when you get to a certain age, wine loses some of its charm. I once hit 6 wineries a day in my 30-40's, now it's about 2-3, and I only drink what I like...

Golf is the new mistress ... what's great is I can be off my game, and she doesn't get pissed ... I can just shrug my shoulders and laugh...

Beach!  Caribbean Islands, St John USVI, Barbados and once in a while paradise, Hawaii.  Please note there are golf courses on these islands and my wife and friends do play!!!  Note: St John doesn't have a course, but St. Thomas does.

My avatar is from the pool balcony at the Marriott Frenchmen's Reef on St Thomas.  The color of the water in the Caribbean never ceases to amaze me.

Cruise the Caribean with my wife......there are several ships out of Tampa, so we don't have to go far to board.....usually a 5 or 7 day cruise.....totally relaxes me as there is nothing to do but enjoy the scenery......like to go to Cozumel.....ther'e a tiki hut bar there called Wet Wendy's.....BEST Margueritas on the planet!....They distill their own organic tequila.

These days, I head to Appalachians for some kayaking or hiking. Sometimes I go to the beach, but there is only so much to do there in my opinion. Fun to go and relax and see the ocean, but I don't know if I could live there. And of course the fresh sea food is the main attraction.

Other trips have been to Maine (beautiful in the summer). While I lived in Colorado, we'd go into the Rockies of course for some backpacking, day-hiking, kayaking, etc. Also spent some time in Jackson Hole, Steamboat Springs, and the Black Hills.

Essentially anything that gets me into the outdoors and away from everyone else.

As much as I love golf, it's hard to beat a day of paddling down a river and then going out for the night touring micro-breweries in the mountains.

I agree that the best Marguaritas are in Cozumel, but they're at Panchos Backyard! :-)

I have done Tortola, which is nice too.  Josiah's Bay is a great beach.

1. Mountains of E Tennessee/W North Carolina 2. Panama city beach 3. Ski trips to Colorado It would probably be all mountain trips if it weren't for my wife. I don't get too hyped up for beach trips.

I did Virgin Gorda in the early 90's - lol - Bitter End Yacht Club.

Lots to do without a crowd; or do nothing - nice pool in the harbor entrance, and desolate ... at that time.

What's a vacation?

(I'm going to Chicago in a few weeks for two days. I'll play some disc golf on the way there with the family, but that's not "golf", so it counts. I will be enjoying several pizzas, too.)
