What is a good 2013 driver for a 70 year old senior?

I plan to buy a new 2013 Driver and live far from a city so getting fit or demo multiple brands is not easy.  I’m 70 with a 16 handicap.  I’m sure other seniors have tried the new line of 2013 drivers.  The Taylormade R1 with all the adjustments looks like it should fit most swings.  Any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks, Brad

I am now 76 and have been using drivers from Pinemeadow Golf for some years.  Right now I am using the model shown here: http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/golf-clubs/woods/zr1.mark2.driver .

I get it in senior flex and with my preferred grip.  It is working well for me and was only about $100.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for your help in choosing a driver.  A lot to choose from.

A local golf course has the Ping fitter equipment so I ordered a Ping G25, 12*, soft flex.  I would have preferred to have waited and tried a few brands but summer's going fast.

If it fits you then you will not be un-happy with it, I  just got mine two weeks ago, a little to soon to comment but so far it seems money well spent.

New on the horizon: Wilson Staff D100 . Has a 12* version among its clubheads, and several shafts to choose from.

Wilson is pushing to really hit the big time again. so they might give you a little more custom care than some manufacturers. Wilson is sending out one of its PGA Tour vans to different demo days this summer - they could build you the driver on the spot if you found a combo you liked. I'm suggesting it would be worth an overnight trip to test out this driver.

I hit several variations of the D100 in June and really liked it. It performed just as well as my Callaway RazrFit, which I love. (in case of tie, I keep my current driver.)

Focus, connect and follow through!
