I hope that this is the right forum for this thread, if it is not then I apologize.  I purchased a putter off of Ebay, it was advertised as a new Odyssey Black Series Tour Design #1 Wide Putter.  The advertisement for the putter indicated that the putter was new and had the original stickers from Odyssey still on the putter, etc......Never is it mentioned anywhere in the ad anything about the putter head-cover.  The only other thing that is mentioned is that there are free Callaway golf balls with the purchase (I could care less as I do not play Callaways, let alone cheap Warbirds).  Because this is a high end putter that is being sold as new with no mention of the head-cover, I am assuming that the head-cover is included.  I've bought and sold many putters and any time the head-cover is not included it is always mentioned.  I just double checked and there is no mention of this.  Thus I was shocked when the putter arrived on Saturday with no head-cover!

Yes I know I should have asked, but considering the high amount of putters that I have bought and sold I have always seen that if the headcover is not included then it's mentioned.  I think that this seller may have done this intentionally and I say that because I know that he/she is going to come back and say "I shipped you exactly what was advertised".  Technically he/she did, he/she also sent the sh*tty golf balls they promised (free Callaway golf balls with purchase!, yeah, don't mention that they are sh*tty Warbirds though).

The putter was fine, I guess you could say it is new.  There are no marks or indications otherwise that it was used before, but there is also some other strange stickers on the shaft of the putter.  It does not hurt the putter or anything but it's just another thing that makes you go hmmm when you analyze the whole picture here.

Maybe I'm wrong but if it's not mentioned that the headcover is not included then I am of the belief that it should be, especially for a putter that has a msrp of $300.  Would you assume that the headcover would be included as well if nothing was mentioned and the item was being sold as new?

I just sent a message to the seller but I have a feeling that I am going to get the old "we shipped you everything we said we were going to".  The seller has a 2520 feedback score and 99.7% rating....

the item was sold as "new", not "new other", but new, which according to ebay definitions is basically equal to something you would buy at a store in person which if this were the case would include the headcover......

below is the ad for the putter, in the item description or in any other part it never mentions anything about the headcover:

Sucks but you have 0 ground to stand on.  If no mention of the head cover is in email correspondence then by law he didn't sell you a putter head cover and you didn't pay for one.  I know that's not what you wanted to hear but that's the truth unfortunately.  Sounds like a scumbag move fro ma 99.7%.  But now you'll know to ask about it next time.

At least it came with a grip (right?)

definition of new is: New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details. See all condition definitions

thus why I assumed (although I won't anymore) that the headcover was included

My issue mainly is that he sold something as "new" when it does not meet that definition.  See the definition of new above which I copied/pasted from Ebay.  Odyssey includes their headcovers with their putters.  Maybe I do have a leg to stand on since he sold it as new and not new other?

Totally feel you, what he did seems like a gray area and isn't nice of him at all.  Maybe try going through eBay resolutions?  Because by "brand new unopened" that would imply that the putter headcover hadn't been removed.  Good luck.

I will, thanks.  Would you have assumed that the headcover would be included?  That's the real reason I started this thread was to find out if I was wrong or right in assuming based on how everything was worded that it should be included?

For mallet black series.  :-\

yeah but that is just the black series.  The putter I bought is a black series tour designs.  To get a matching headcover it's about $50 cuz it's tour designs:

Without sounding condescending I would've certainly asked about the headcover if there was no mention of it and no picture of it prior to bidding/buying.  But I would understand if one thought that it was implied.

If I were "ruling" I would rule in favor of "brand new and unopened" implying the head cover is included based on the post where you provided eBay's summary of the "brand new" description.

Did he include stock photos of the putter that included the headcover?  Or any photos of the headcover?

No, the photos were just stock photos of the putter and there were no pictures of the headcover.  The stock photos were from Odyssey as I have seen that photo before.  Here is the actual listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111087187808?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649.

It sounds dumb that I did not ask but when I saw that it was "new" and according to ebay, new should meet the following standards:

Condition

New

A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

New other (see details)

A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second or a new, unused item with defects. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Used

An item that has been used previously.  The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

For parts or not working

An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller's listing for full details.

Because of that and in checking the seller's notes there was no mention of the headcover not being included (like is the case when the headcover is not included by the seller).  I figured I was buying this just same as I would have been if I were buying it from GG or Golfsmith or something.....

If it doesnt say the headcover is included, then you cant assume that the headcover is included, even if it is listen as, "new".

I agree.

You've made up your mind, but it's now roughly 3 against and only you for. It's a bummer, and I can see why you thought it would be included, but I still don't think it's his fault or anything.

The putter itself is "new." The headcover isn't "packaging."

"other strange stickers on the shaft"?

Is this a legit putter or possibly a knock-off from somewhere? I recall an incident a few years ago where a kid from London, England bought a "excellent condition" X-Box box on line. He paid around $250 and got exactly what was advertised......an X-Box..... box! He assumed there was a typo in the add.

the other stickers on the shaft were barcode stickers that a golf store or warehouse would use, something along those lines.  I'm 100% positive it's a legit putter, it just had 2 extra of those barcode stickers, like the ones that display the price of the putter.

I guess I was wrong to assume that the rules of selling an item correctly would be followed.  I had never seen anything like this before and I've looked and bought/sold so many putters that it has never been an issue.  Still waiting for a response from the seller and what I do will depend a lot on how the seller handles this.  I discussed with some people online that buy/sell lots of putters and they said that they have never seen anything like this at all either as any experienced person that is planning on not including a headcover always mentions it.  That omission along with the way that the product was sold as new but probably should not have been and also the way the balls were sold up as some Hex Chromes or something when they were really Warbirds (if you have nothing to hide then just say what they are instead of leading people on to believe they are better than they are) leads me to believe that the omission was calculated.

So we'll see.  If he/she is a jerk about it then I always have the option of leaving negative feedback.....

So I've gotta ask: why ask us if you were not going to be convinced, despite a 3-0 (or more) vote?

I'm not much of an e-bay person, but I understand that feedback is a big deal on there ... so I don't think this is right of you.  The person advertised a putter and sold you a putter and you paid for a putter and you received a putter ... why would you think its fair to give them negative feedback for not including something that they never advertised?

Chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way - that you can't assume anything - and admit its your own fault and move on.
