I just got a new pair of Razr Black irons and I find that my shots which weren't perfectly straight but passable before, are now really moving left to right (I'm LH), starting well left and really coming back right. Any suggestions? Opinions?

Are they offset? The reason I never liked Callaway products, is because they all have offsets, to help prevent slicing.

I just looked at them on Callaway's site. They are indeed offset. That will promote a draw for more so than an non-offset iron.

That's nice, but I believe, almost all irons, except for a few blades, have offset.

It's the amount of offset that bothers some people, although I believe you can adjust your rotation without thinking about it too much for relief.

I'm not certain of the geometry involved, my worst subject, but if the club ball flight starts left, that usually means the face is open at impact for a lefty. Now are you saying the offset causes so much sidespin that one gets a huge draw (for a lefty)? Does it cause more of an inside path to the ball?

The OP can also compare the offset of his old irons against the new irons to determine if there is a large difference.

RAZR X Black Irons

The iron has a curious head design. Despite having noticeable offset, it also has a diagonal bar on back of clubhead from mid-sole back toward the heel. I've hit these irons on several occasions. The bar seemingly prevents the clubhead from getting too much "draw bias" as the head moves through the ball.

Also, the GolfWorks guys warn that offset is overrated for causing draws. Main effect offset has is promoting better hand position for golfers with less vigorous swings.

Any chance an extra wrap of tape under the grips might reduce the draw?

Also, what shafts do you have? Stock shafts are:

  • M10 steel Uniflex (flex between R and S), weight about 110 grams.
  • RazrX Black graphite (R and S flex both weigh 75 grams, and are low torque)

What shafts did your old irons have?
