Could you tee up a ball from a beer can? John Daly can.

A guy at the course bar was telling me that on every #17 he and his group tee up a ball off of a beer can in remembrance of one of their dear friends.

I was watching youtube today and came across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAkfG-xgVCg John Daly crushing a drive off of a coke can (then drinking it of course).

I don't think I could do that.  But I might try with an old beater driver.

I would probably catch a lot more can than ball.

Unless its empty, it sounds like alchohol abuse to me.

Hah.  The impressive part is the can that Daly hit off was full and unopened.  After he cleans his ball off the top for a typical Daly monster, he picks it up, pops it open, and pours it into a glass.

I wouldn't risk damaging my clubs.

Here's the original during a pro-am with (in a huge misstep by the PGA organizers) Kidd Rock as a playing partner, imagine the gallery for that...

Tees it off a king can. IIRC he was fined by the PGA for being an asshat.

This is why bottles are frowned upon at most courses.

I did it with a right handed driver flipped upside down swinging lefty on asphalt one day first try lol, it went over the rink and out into the lake well over 200yds. I wish I could hit that straight with my normal driver :-)

Yeah, i read in Daly's autobiography that he was fined by the PGA a goodly sum of money for conduct unbecoming a professional.  That is ' busting the beer can!' A real pro would use a short can and hit it clean but big John was showing off in front of the Razorback Clam Club and had a good laugh but smashed the can and wasted the beer.  Very unbecoming a 'pro'.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
