Has it been thought of or suggested in the past that we have some sub-forums like under "golf talk" for regions? That way in case a group wants to plan an outing, share specials, or offer play suggestions it's a one stop shop? Also people traveling to those locations can ask questions or look up specials to help them out as well?

It could be like North Region (Wis, Minn, Ill, Mich, Iowa, Ind..... ect. or even go as far as doing individual states.

Just a thought......

We've had this discussion before, and I've given the same answers several times.

The U.S. is too big to make a "geographic" subset of forums useful at all. You'd either have too few (say, NY, OH, PA) or too many (Erie, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, Meadville, PA, etc.). And people will be on the borderlines of many, or close enough to be near too many.

There's no feasible solution. Groups are the best option since at least you can create groups where there are golfers.

Groups can work quite well. Use the SoCal group as an example... since December we've met up as a group to play three separate times and are planning our fourth. At our first outing we had 10 players and this last one was nearly 20. I know that there is another group (NW PA/NE OH or something like that) that is doing the same thing.

And don't forget to make the group open to anybody.  We've had members from Norcal, TX, and PA at our outings as well. :)

Thanks for the replies. I figured it was addressed at one time. There is a "hometown" section on another forum I use (ar15.com) and they break down by state. It makes it nice for organizing shoots, selling items and so on. I will set-up a group for Wisconsin and see how it goes.

Right, but for example I live closer to Columbus, and even Cincinnati, OH than I do to Philadelphia, PA. And Buffalo, and Rochester, and Syracuse, NY, too. Toledo. Heck, I almost live closer to Chicago than Philadelphia.

Breaking things down by states doesn't work very well, and even if we did, we'd have 50 little forums. Then bigger states need more forums so now we're at 80 or so, and we still haven't gotten anything outside of the United States, and people STILL have to pay attention to multiple regions.

Turns out it's much easier to create them "on the fly" with Groups, or just ask that people pay attention to thread titles or use the search fields. I think you're starting to see what I mean by how it's not terribly feasible. There are likely more golfers than fans of AR-15s. :)

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
