55 Degree SW + 58 Degree LW, anyone?

Hi everyone, just trying to get an opinion here, I currently have a 50AW and 55SW, and I'm looking to pick up a LW. Now I found an awesome deal online at my local area selling a TM ATV 58 degree LW.

I will be using the lob wedge for short shots just outside the green, and most likely wont be shooting over any obstacles.

My question is, do you think its worth it to get the 58deg if I already have the 55? Are the two lofts too close apart? Should I get a 60LW instead?

Thanks!

If it's a good deal and you like it, go for it. You could always have it bent to 60*, which would also give you the added benefit of some extra bounce.

For years I was playing with an old Ram 55* wedge from the days when Tom Watson still played Ram clubs.  It seemed to do a decent job, but I bought Stan Utley's The Art of Scoring book and Utley recommended a 58* wedge instead of a standard 55 or 56* SW.  I got lucky on an used Vokey Spin Milled 58* wedge for cheap on eBay (I think I got it for $33 shipped) .  I'm not sure if it's the stiff shaft on the new club compared to the R shaft on my old wedge, maybe its shaft is a bit longer, or maybe it's just a better quality club, but I'm hitting it about the same 85-90 yards as I hit my old 55* wedge (should have been 10 yds shorter, with the extra loft), plus it's got a higher ball flight, and much better feel - I'm pitching and chipping closer and sculling fewer shots with it.  It performs about the same out of the sand as my old wedge.  So far, I'm extremely happy with the club and it has not only completely replaced my 55* wedge, but given me more options than that club ever had.

Thanks for the reply, however i was hoping that it didnt havr to replace my 55 sandwedge. Maybe ill get the 58 and try it out maybe have it bend to 60 later on

I carry a 56* SW and a 58* LW. I seldom hit either wedge full.....they both get used for different types of shot, generally closer to the green. As such, I'm not that concerned with the close difference in lofts.

could always bend the 55 1* strong so you'd get 50/54/58 degree lofts.

Some articles say a 58 gives you more control compared to a 60. I use 54 and 58 and am very happy.

Is there a big different between 58 vs 60 distance wise?

Depends on a few things. For a mid to high handicapper, probably not.

Maybe 5 yards difference at most.

I think I'm going with the TM ATV 58 deg LW, anyone used this before? I'm wondering if this will be good to use from the fairway just outside the green

I bought new irons this year! The pw is 45* and the aw is 50* I can use my aw in bunkers successfully, but not for lobbing & flopping, so then I bought a 56* which I like! But even with an open face I still couldn't stop the ball dead at close range, which i wanted to! so I added 62* and now the ball sticks to the green like shit on a blanket! I'm very happy with the 5* to 6* increments in loft! Don't be scared! Get an ultra lob!! You won't have to open the face and you can attack the pin!
