So there is a sale going at my local Dunham's Sports where I can get this driver for $99. Currently I have the r7 quad at 10.5 loft and stiff shaft. While I hit it good, I did see that it is now non-conforming to it's CoR being too high. Would the octane black tour be a good driver to switch to? As much as I'd love to buy a high dollar driver like an r1 or rbz I just can't justify the cost, but I do want to be in compliance.

The taylormade game improvement driver lines from the last couple years should be going for peanuts. I see unused RBZ drivers going for 150 so if that's what you want then go with that, or wait for sales at the end of the season to get it even cheaper. There's also the superfast and r11 lines going cheap if you can find them. There are clevelands going for 100, pings for fairly cheap, etc. The heads and brand aren't really going to make as much difference as the shaft and especially the swing IMO. Find something you like for cheap if you just want to be conforming, it's not that big of an investment. Nothing is going to be incredibly longer than your r7 but you should be pretty happy with any of them if you get the right specs.

Well dude, now these drivers are going for like 130 at stores like dicks. Don't wait for a sale just for it to be 20 dollars cheaper.

I'm actually set up for a lesson and driver fitting tomorrow to get the right set up. I figured it's better than just guessing what would be good and buying or ordering it. I want to start doing things the right way for a change. I did that with the irons I bought, tried out several different ones and settled on the ones that felt the best.

      @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday.       Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
