It's virtually impossible to "ruin" a club unless you break it off at the hosel.  Even breaking a shaft is easily repairable.

The other question I have, is how do you decide which of your "real" clubs to pull out and replace with that 20 year old Northwestern 6-iron in the off chance that you might need it? b3_huh.gif

Just buy a used club and abuse it like hell.   That's what I do.   When I sell it back or donate it, I don't feel too bad about it because I felt like I've got more than my money's worth.   I love golf too much to worry about my set getting nicks and scratches.   Ditto with new golf balls.   I hit them like there is no tomorrow and when the ball gets scuffed enough, I retire it and give it a good burial (hit it on a range).

A friend of mine gave me an old 56* Vokey that he used in college, so the club was well worn. I keep it in my bag to punch out of rocky areas because I'm not about to scratch my brand new sticks.

Why retire old golf balls on the range...hit those suckers into a lake much more satisfying!!!
