Ok, so I suck at using my Driver off the Tee... lol i practice at the driving range but just am not consistent with it....

So i was thinking of just using a 3 wood ,  I can hit a 3 wood pretty good off the tee...

But I am looking for a new 3 wood, since the one i have now just has too much flex in the shaft... I still hit it good but just feels weird since i can feel the shaft flex lol...  and obviously need a Stiff Shaft Flex.....

I was looking at the Adams Speedline , Callaway Diablo's, RBZ's, TM Burner's , and such...    is anyone of them better than another lol???

It is what it is

Check around for different lofts on 3W's. I have a Callaway FTiZ 13* that is strictly used off the tee on holes where a driver is too much club, accuracy is needed, or if it is extremely windy- it goes low and rolls like stink. I also have a TM R11s 17* Fairway that is used either off the tee OR from the fairway.

Spend a few bucks on a lesson. Have that instructor find what is off in your driver swing. It's really worth the $40-$50.

Get a shorter driver shaft. Once I started using a 44"- 43.5" shaft I was hitting the sweet spot much more often.

I don't think I am bad with my driver, but feel more accurate/consistent with my TM R11 15.5 3w which I have been hitting a lot lately.  I have thought about taking some loft off it, but there are really only a couple holes where I would want any more distance with it at the course I have been playing the most.

If you are hitting your 3w consistently good, I wouldn't worry about the shaft feeling too soft.

Callaway XHot 3Deep - I've seen them on sale - $153

Phil did well with it.

Yeah I would splurge and take lessons.... Aint nothing better than bombing a drive down the fairway... But if you wanna go the other route, I just saw that Tour Edge has an 11.5* 3 wood... Basically a driver with a smaller head... Might be what you are looking for

Go onto the Tour Edge site, click on clubs, and look for the Pre-Owned link along the top. Solid price drops about 18 months after  model launch. http://www.touredge.com/

I would check out Globalgolf.com, they sell used clubs and they're in great condition. I got my 3W from them and bought it in Very Good condition, looked brand new. Buying a used club will also save you some money and if you don't like the club for whatever reason it's a lot easier to buy a new one knowing you only spent a few bucks on it in the first place.

I love my 3W, so I, by default, suggest the Nike VR Pro 3 Wood. It's a stiff flex and I find it very easy to hit off the tee or fairway.

What's your swing speed with a driver? Just because you can feel the shaft flex doesn't mean you need a stiffer shaft. The shaft in my 13* 3 wood is a stiff, but it's really soft and I can feel it flex, but I hit it really well.

If you really like your 3 wood and consistently hit it 240 with accuracy, why spend money on a new 3 wood? Investing in some lessons would likely be better in the long run.

Not sure why, but my son decided to start hitting 3W off the tee on the last round. Now, he is driving a bit further than before with his driver. Maybe he needs to get refitted for his driver, he grew about 2" in the last 2 months.

I say just cut your driver down to 43.5".  Most drivers today are too long for most people to hit the sweet spot consistently.  I currently play an old persimmon driver with a 200cc wood head and a 43" steel shaft and I hit that thing better than Ive hit ANY titanium driver.  IMO, it all has to do with the shaft length.  Its a length where I can hit it on the screws consistently.

Ive got a Nike SasQuatch driver sitting in the closet and when I crack the head on my old persimmon Im going to have the Nike cut down to 43.5" and see how it goes.

When I started off, I had the same problem. My natural swing speed is about the same as yours. The issue for me was that I could not control the swing speed, since I was a beginner. As soon as I went to the stiffest shaft I could get cheaply, I could hit the ball more consistently. I did not hit very far, but it went more or less straight. However, now that I have been learning better swing mechanics, I am able to slow down my swing and hit better. Still work in progress. Lessons or stiffer shaft? If you just want to get out on the course and play, then you can always buy a stiffer shaft cheaply and adequately play the course. The lessons with a really good coach will have you swinging much better, but will take some time depending upon your athletic ability. When you get your swing mechanics down, you can hit any club with reasonable consistency.

i picked up a g20 for $100 with a stiff shaft. gives my driver a run for the money because it flies straighter, and definitely is forgiving face-wise.

also great for when the wind picks up because i tend to hit it very low (i don't use a tee with it).

i still like hitting my hybrid off the tee, but i just got the 3 wood and am still getting used to it.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
