Ive been taking in so much material that ive hit a mental lock. i played 9 yesterday and lost my shot, i literally forgot how i swung. i never recovered it yesterday. I kept thinking about the tons of advice ive been given and was getting from my playing partner, all the swings and videos ive studied kept flashing in my head and to top it all off, all of the left/right opinions of the swing ive been reading were scrolling in my mind like a teleprompter  -  i was completely confused. anyone else ever have these hiccups?

im going to the range sunday to reconstruct - fun fun. perhaps reinvent.

Always try to focus on 1 thing, not i need to think i do this and don't do that. And try to reconstruct what you did wrong. You start learning i my experience if you can feel what you do wrong. I know the first month i had no idea what you do wrong, you see a ball go far to the left and have no idea how it got there. Sure you know you had the clubhead open but how dit it happen at what part of the swing.

Yep you can only really work on one thing at a time.  Do that one thing over and over and over and over again until you realize you are no longer thinking about it.  Then you can try something new. Then when you try something new and you start to regress on what you were doing before, go back and do the first thing over and over and over again.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

This happened to me two weeks ago. Shot a worst round after a month of lessons and probably 50 hours of practice. Not to mention videos, articles, forums, etc. Took a day off from golf and went back out there. Spent a whole hour just doing mini swings with no plan, expectations, or thoughts. Then I started full swings with the same mindset. Didn't even look to see the ball too much. Just getting a feel. I just needed to clear my head. Played again 10 days later and took 22 strokes off. Just clear your head (easier said than done).

    • I kind of like this interpretation especially if you think about it the unplayable rule would probably put you in a better spot.  using back on the line releief.
    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
