Difference between a cart bag and stand bag?

the cart bag is cheaper than the stand bag, and has a bigger saving too. any reason why I shouldn't go for it?

to be honest right now I play pitch and putt, and go to the driving range. in a bit I will just play a 9 hole par 3/4 public course.

should I just get the cart bag?

If you're going to be carrying your bag, I think in the long run, you'll be happier with a good stand bag..... If your going to be riding most of the time, the utility of the cart bag's the way to go.

thanks. forgot to mention when I play pitch and putt I just take a PW, SW and putter with no bag. right now the bag would be used to carry my clubs from the car to the range. are cart bags huge in comparisonm? what about a pencil bag?

A stand bag has - ta da! - a stand mechanism. When you lean it over a little, two legs pop out and it securely sets on three points. A cart bag is bigger, doesn't have legs, and because it's designed to be placed in a cart where one side will be buttressed up against the vehicle, all the pockets and access areas are placed around the other 3 sides. They usually have stiffer walls and wider diameters than stand bags, so they're heavier. They'll stand up on flat ground ok, but they'll fall over a lot easier than a stand bag when not in a cart. Pencil bags (or "Sunday bags") are fantastic for what you describe. They're light, convenient, and not so big in diameter that 2 or 3 clubs will be rattling around banging into each other when you lug it from the car to the range. As long as you don't mind laying your clubs down if there's no range-bay stand (and you don't need to stow more than a few balls and tees in the one pocket) these are a great choice.

A cart bag will last longer and store more.There are some bags that are hybrid cart bags they basically can be carried and have a built in stand. The one I have is the sun mountain SCB ( now called the Hybrid) and it works on the motorized cart & speed cart with a separate putter slot and reverse club sections ( faces the rear of the cart ) but although its a little heavy it still has the flick stand legs and double straps.

pitch and put should use a ping sunday bag.

I recently got a decent lightweight stand bag, it's big enough to fit 14 clubs, light enought to carry with the shoulderstraps, and fits nicely in a push trolley for hot days when I don't feel like carrying! Of course I'm still young..ish, so I don't bother with buggys.. Yet!
