Suddenly hooking the ball?

My game has been at both ends of the spectrum within the last year.  I have had slicing problems (coming out to in), and a couple of months ago I had a hook (coming too much in to out) that I fixed my making my grip weaker and changing my swing plane.  However, after taking a 7 week break from golf I was hitting it right with the weak grip, so I came back to my old grip (which is neutral to weak).     I just went to golf camp for a week for a great experience and because I need to get better for school (I am around a 20 handicap).  I was hitting bit of a fade usually and they told me to make my grip stronger and to keep my left arm close to my body.  Now I have come back and without even making my grip stronger I am hooking it (so I am definitely not going to make my grip stronger as that would make things worse in this situation).  I definitely don't start my swing with my hips usually, which is what I was trying to do today on the course instead of making my grip weaker like I did a couple months ago.  Many balls hooked, but there were a fair amount that went straight and had a nice draw when I started with my hips and lagged.  I was getting much better distance today too, better than usual.   Nevertheless, I need to fix this hook for good while maintaining this draw.  Any recommendations on what I should do?  Should I keep working on my lag or do something else?  If so with the lag, any good drills?  Thanks.

I'm not great, but I have dealt with everything you have multiple times. Where is the ball starting out initially? Straight and then hooking badly left? Or is it a pull hook?

It tends to be a little more of a pull hook than anything, sometimes straight but regardless it hooks

Read this man. Really helped me understand what was going on a lot better.

Sounds kinda like you have a good inside to out swing path but your face might be closed at impact and I haven't seen your swing but you may be too flat, might have too much weight on your heels or be squatting. Not really sure since I can't see what you are doing.

And I am no pro lol. Just throwing some ideas your way.

Open the face a little at address, try weakening your grip more, and/or maybe try moving the ball around in your stance.

That or it might just be plane. Try making it a little steeper without coming over the top. I struggle with the same thing man. I sometimes have a problem finding that perfect spot. I wish someone good would share some drills they know.

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
