On occasion, golfers get into trouble via twitter (looking at you Zinger!), normally for acting as if they are out of touch with the 'common man'.  Rarely, do you see 3 gents get in hot water on the same day, though.

While Poulter's wasn't bad at all, Overton comes off as a sniveling kid that's venting about not being invited to the party.  Also, the factual inaccuracies and his grand total of ZERO top 10 finishes in majors make his case about as strong as wet toilet tissue.

Yeah, not a flattering article, especially the part where rules officials allowed players to use the practice green during the Colonial round, Overton assumed that somehow meant *all* rules were off the table, so blames officials for his DQ for use of a training aid. Then says that DQ was what kept him out of the PGA Championship. No Jeff, being 154th in OWGR (when you needed to be top 100), and being 113 in the money standings (when you needed to be top 70) is what kept you out.

In the words of Jim Colbert quoted at the end of that article, "Play better."

Lee Westwood - Had a moment, and apologized.  I can accept that.

Jeff Overton - Who? What? Where? When?

Ian Poulter - He has a point!!

That's my quick assessment

lol, yep exactly.  Jeff Overton... who?

I can't blame Poulter and Westwood, they are 100% correct.  It's supposed to be a gentlemens game and the kinda screaming and crap that's allowed just screams immature and childish.  The "fans" at tour events have really become a joke.  Twice I saw on TV errant tee shots picked up by little kids who dashed to the ball like it's a foul ball at a ballgame.  Sorry, but teach your kids if you're going to take them to a golf tournament you DO NOT pick up the golf balls.  And the PGA should start placing pressure on the tournaments and security services at these events to get rid of the people who want to do this.  Players have become accustomed to roars in the background as they hit their ball on another hole... but probably not hearing "MASHED POTATOES" in the middle of their backswing 1 hole over

Callaway XR 9.5 + 1, Taylormade R15 3 Wood, Burner 3 Rescue, Callaway XHot 5H, Warbird 4H, Nike Vapor Fly 6-AW Irons, Titleist Vokey 54, 60 Wedges, Taylormade Rossa Fontana Putter, Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
