every time i go somewhere on this forum, that stupid little floating ad pops up. sure it says i can close it but it never lets me. please get rid of it.

i mean if it were to open once and i could close it, well fine, but over and over and over - it makes me feel like not coming back here.

What ad? You have to be more specific.

Additionally, I've never seen an ad you can't close, and they only activate when you hover over them for three seconds (if you're talking about the relatively new interactive ads).

I don't get those, because i run ad-block on Mozilla or Chrome browsers. It kills a ton of ads for me.

I run google chrome and don't get any pop ups here, although a rare popup from different sites will occasionally breach the wall.  Maybe it's malware on your computer, OP.  Do you see the same ad on other websites besides TST?

this is the only site that pops up a hovering ad bar. its on the bottom of the screen shot. it even has a close option but i cant ever close it.

i changed some browser setting and it comes less but it always pops up eventually. sometimes on every single post i look at.

i get the need for ad revenue, because this site needs to be paid for, but its constantly harassing me and becoming an annoyance.

You'll note that you're not logged in. Logged in users don't ever see that floating ad at the bottom of the browser.

To you and any others who run AdBlock, I'd request that you disable it for thesandtrap.com. We feel we provide a LOT of GOOD stuff for free, and we'd appreciate it if you could return the favor of letting us make a penny or two.

How about you get to access a great forum with tons of free advice, in exchange for stuff on the periphery of the page that pays our bills and allows us to keep operating the site for free?

That's a nice reward.

And I recommend you not use any ad blocking software for reasons stated above. Or pay the $29 to become a Supporter and disable the ads if you want. But they're usually relevant, and they pay the bills while you get to enjoy the site for free.

Also, again, the "pop-up" (which isn't a pop-up) ad only appears when you're not logged in.

  • 5 years later...

I use Chrome on my smart phone for 99% of my internet access. I have never been bothered by ads. I know if I visit a website that is unrelated to golf, their ads sometimes show up on TST when I am on here. I just figure they are part of some residual effect of my surfing history, but not an actual TST ad.. IDk, never every,  really worried about it.

Went to less intrusive banner ads on the bottom and right side I see. Is this bringing in more or less pennies than the adverts back then were?

You're responding to a topic from 2013, and we went to the ads we have now in about 2014.

I take pride in not having ads that are in your face. Pages have 3-4 ads for members, 4-5 for non-members. And that's it.

Advertisers occasionally sneak in these bullshit things.

If you get a lot of them, I need to know the URL of them and the screenshot like you posted helps. Then they can begin to track down which advertiser is the "bad actor" and block their ads.

Also, I read to get out of it, go up to the top line and enter a site url like thesandtrap.com or google.com and it will bypass how the ad works. Don't just hit the back button. This seems to work for me.

Occasionally you can hold the back button down and thesandtrap.com will be in the history of the back button, but then you're likely just loading the same page from a cache that got you the bad actor ad. So yeah, typing in a fresh URL or closing the window is the best way to go.

    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
