playing more than 18 in a given day?

How many of you get the opportunity to play 27+ a day, and if so how often do you take advantage of it?  Do you find that you play better on the 2nd 18, worse?  Do you have any tips (riding a cart, drinking lots of fluids, limit practice swings, etc)

 

I know that several people here do golf outings / trips where you might play 54 holes in 2 days, or 90 holes in 3 days, etc.  I am more interested in the person that play 36 on a random Saturday because the course was empty and they have the most understanding family / etc.

I gave up my job to practice full time at age 18 last year, so in theory I could play 36 holes a day everyday.. I would burn out so quickly it would be unimaginable, more than 3 days straight of 36 holes and I would be on my arse.. In a 36 hole competition however, I do actually always play better on the second 18, I think its to do with knowing the course so much better/knowing the pins/feeling the greens first hand.. 

Having done alot of golf over 36holes the biggest tip I could give you would be to take everything a bit slower, same as on a hot day I guess, just chill totally and dont stress over shots (surprising how much energy you can waste getting flustered over a shot)

6 days a week I play 18 with an hour set aside for short game before hand.

Will find out tomorrow. Club championships. we play 2 x 18 on saturday and if we do well ( cut ) 18 on sunday.

In competition we do 2 x 18 also but than the morning is a foursome. i never play at my best in foursomes because you can do a drive and a putt in a hole. the next hole is a wedge or iron and hopefully no putts. Hard to get a rhythm for me. So in that case i play better in the singles for the second 18.

I have this problem, I never want to stop golfing once I start rofl. I'm sure that would change if I were able to play as much as I wanted. I always try to get out on a course that has all you can play after 2 or whatnot but the problem is you rarely get more than 27 in because it's so busy. If money wasn't an issue I could play multiple courses in one day to get a full 36+ holes in, but unfortunately finances don't allow that.

I play 27 holes on occasion at my base course. I play there for free and since it's run by the Air Force it's not the nicest course in the area and often dead. If the first hole looks clear when I make the turn (after 18) I sometimes will play an additional 9 if I'm not tired. 27 is usually my max though since I always walk. I've done 36 a few times but I'm usually dead afterwards and require a 2000-3000 calorie meal afterwards.

My buddy and I used to to it regularly back in the day.  We even played 54 in one day on rare occasions.  After I retired, I didn't have the need to do that to get my proper dosage, so it's pretty rare to play more than 18.  Now I only do it when I get together with my brother on vacation.

I play 27 sometimes. And I almost always play really good on those last 9.  Maybe the pressure of the 18-hole score is off a little.  And like mentioned above - I've had a chance to see the greens and such.

 

Your question seems to be more about endurance.  I have never walked 27, but I almost always walk 18.  I think if you can walk 18, riding 27 is not much different than riding 18 - should be no problem at all.  You'd always want to hydrate on hot days obviously.  I'm not sure limiting practice swings would do much.  I don't ever really get tired of swinging specifically - but can be tired in general after walking 18 on a hot day.

I fall under the "random" category.  Nice day, finish earlier than expected, no plans, course is not busy.  I tend to walk the first 18 and if doing another 9 I might also walk.  If a full second 18 will be played I often take a cart.

 

Eating something light between 18's helps me.  As you mentioned, drinking lots of water is good, too.  I tend to play as well the 2nd go around as long as I recognize that my legs are getting tired.  When my legs get tired I tend to become an "arm swinger" with predictably poor results.  So I make sure I rest a bit more the 2nd 18 and stretch the legs prior to tee shots.  The last time I walked a full 36 was in Scotland last month but I had a caddy the first 18.  Played well both rounds.  A year ago on my 60th birthday I walked 18 in the morning and took a cart at a different course in the afternoon.  Had my best round of the year that 2nd 18.

 

So my suggestion is go for it when the conditions are right.

I played 36 one time, first round was walking, then it was still early, nice weather, not much to do so we grabbed a kart and did another 18.

 

I couldn't walk 36.

I played 18 then 9, and walked and carried both courses. The first one was a short 5600 yards, though. What a long day. Burned something like 2500 calories, but then consumed another 3000 just to make up for it.

I play 36 on Saturdays and Sundays. I usually shoot pretty much the same score the earlier round and the later round. I use a cart so each round takes about 2 and a half hours. Other than that not much tips I mean it's golf how tired can you get with a cart?

I played 27 holes yesterday.  I play golf with a group and occasionally we will go out of town to play.  We try to get the earliest tee time available where we are going, even if this means we have to leave home at 2 or 3 in the morning.  We have been known to get 54+ holes in same day, spend the night, play 36 next day and drive back home. 

 

A few years back, I went to Myrtle Beach.  Flew in on Friday around noon, was there all the next week and flew back on Saturday night.  Was there 8 nights.  I played 15 rounds. So, I almost averaged 36 holes every day. 

 

Since all of this is happening during the summer and dealing with high heat and humidity, best advice I can give anyone is stay hydrated.  It is a must to drink lots of fluids.  I mostly drink water and Gatorade.  For ever bottle of Gatorade I drink, I will drink 2 bottles of water.  I also like to have some sort of salty snack at least a couple of times during the day, something like Fritos work good for me.  Since I am Type 2 Diabetic, I take pills for my blook sugar.  So, it is a must that I eat something before I start playing or else I will get low blood sugar shakes.  I just don't like to eat anything heavy.

When I am on vacation in Florida I play 36 almost every day. Not a problem at all with a golfcart. Also not a lot of difference between rounds on a day.

 

At home I play 27-36 walking a couple of times a month, no problem physically. Once 36 at the clubchampionship, first round 15 strokes better then second. I could not focus the second round, too warm. But most of the time de second round is more for fun then trying to go low.

When I was a club member I almost always played from daylight until slightly after dark (with the golf cart lights on the last hole or two) on any day off of work (and we were only working 3 or 4 days a week).

 

No idea how many holes we played but since there was almost never anyone on the course except for me and any friends that showed up it was fairly easy to play 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours or less.

 

No rhyme or reason for how I played at different points during the day but normally the later it got the better I played. Usually about the 12th hour I was getting tired enough that all of my hooks turned into straight balls.

 

Now I play 36 holes every Saturday and sometimes get in a round during the week (when I have time) but that's it.

I play 27 more often than not.  99% of the time we play during the week so most of the time the course is not too busy.  Most courses give a big discount for a 9 hole replay also.  Most of the time we will do something different on the last nine just to mix it up a little.  We will play irons only, odd numbered clubs only, or do teams and play foursomes or 4 ball. 

Drink plenty of water.

Last time I played 36 holes was in 1999. It was a dry sunny day in the low 90s in Southwest Oklahoma, humidity was about zero.

 

The course had gently rolling terrain, and I had a new stand bag, so I decided to walk. I ended up walking 27, and then rode the last nine. The problem was not fatigue, it was bruised feet. I had an old pair of all-leather golf shoes, and the pounding from the hard-clay ground had me limping near the end.

 

It was one of my best golf days - I shot in the mid-80s for both rounds. Only detail I remember, the second and third nine were better than the first and fourth nine.
