Where do you rate

How do you rate importance of your game
Driving
200-240 shots
175-200 shots
150 and in
100 and in
Short pitches and chips
Putting
Just curious some times I think I worry too much a out that 200-230 shot and what to bag what to hit
Has anyone ever broke down there rounds to see exactly where they are strongest and weakest
What methods have you used
Love to hear any and all responses

Well If i was do rate my game on a scale of 1 to 10 , with 10 being most important  it would go something like this....

Drive - 10  because if i am on the fairway and not off in the trees, i am saving myself strokes

200+ yards to green -  6   only because unless I hit my 3 wood really good, 200-225 yards is about my limit with a 3 wood...

199-150 yards -  9 ,  I say this is almost as important as my drive because if I can get it on the green from here I am  saving strokes....

150-100 yards -  8 ,  Same as the 199-150 yard shot..

100 - chip shots - 6 , usually i only encounter this shot when one of the longer shots ends up going left or right of the green, or if i am on a 550+ yard hole..

Putting -  lol I suck at putting, i know its a important part of the game, but ehhhh one of these days i will practice at it...

i'd usually say my longer shots are what trouble me the most...  so they are more important, where as 150 yards and closer i am pretty good with my shots.....

Op, did you mean rate yourself in each category like David did, or were you asking us to just arrange the categories in order of importance?

Please clarify. ;)

Driving is most important to me. Most of the others are pretty consistent but when the drivers good I'm good. When the driver is being mean I'm not so good

I think an interesting way to look at this would be to rank the classifications that the OP posted, based on how important we feel they are to our game.

From most important to least:

  1. Putting
  2. Short pitches and chips
  3. Driving
  4. 150 - 100
  5. 100 and in
  6. 175 - 200
  7. 200 - 240

Rate your game as you see it

I pretty much have expectations for ever aspect of my game.

If i had to rank most important to my game

1) 125 yards an in (including short game)

2) putting

3) driving

4) 125-150 approach

5) 150-175

6) 175-200

7) 200+

I put 125 and in first because proximity will dictate a higher chance of making putts. So its slightly ahead of putting, but putting is up there because its by far the most used club in the bag, only club you use 18 times, unless a chip in.

1. Putting - you can hit it as close as you want but if you can't make the putt you'll never shave any strokes

2. Pitches & chips - short game is where I (and most people) have seen strokes shaved off their game the fastest.

3. Driving - rarely can a drive make a hole but often it can break one, gotta put it in play to give yourself a chance

4. 100 in - scoring shots, with a wedge in your hand is when you have the best chance to make birdie

5. 150 in - short irons, also scoring clubs to a point

6 & 7. 175+ These are shots where you're not necessarily trying to stick it close, rather just putting yourself on the green or in the right position, important, but not as much as the others.

1. Chips and pitches. This can make up for a lot of other sins. Putting is almost equal, but even the best of us "regualr" golfers need to be inside 10-15 feet and the closer the better. 2. Putting. At my level I miss a lot of greens, but if you can get on and in, it is still par. 3. Driving. Reasonable length in reasonable position eliminates a lot of the 175-240 yard shots, excepting par 5's of course. 4. 150 in. I am combining 2 categories here for me, because from 150 in it is a 7 iron or less, and I am as likely to hit the green with a 7 as with a 9, and this is also saying that I am as likely to miss with a 9 as with a 7, LOL! But if I have a decent playable drive, this is the next important distance. 5. 175-240+ This is what I have if I miss a drive or usually what I have on a par 5 with a decent drive. Most par 5's are 3 shot holes for me and on those that aren't I am usually happy to be on in reg. I am not usually looking for pin point accuracy and distance here(unless it is a long par 3), but reasonable distance and being in the fairway to position for the next shot.

If I am going to have a good day, I have to keep it in play off the tee, and then I have to put it on the green.  Pretty much as simple as that.  (If I'm driving it good, I, frankly, don't have that many shots between 175-240 because I don't play 7200 yard courses. :)

EDIT:  The above is how important I think the categories are.  If I was to also rate those same categories in order of current proficiency, I think they'd go something like this:

1. 150 and in

2. 100 and in

3. putting

4. pitching/chipping

5. 175-200

6. 200-240

7. driving

:)
