Rules Forum Suggestion

When reading through the Rules Forum, there are a number of great threads and I've learned many rules by reading through the threads.... Unfortunately one thing that I find is that there is no clear and concise way to summarize what the finding/decision/ruling is for the thread that I'm reading.

A thread could be 1 page, or it could be 30+pages... But the user has to read through any number of pages to find the 'meat' of the decision/ruling in question by the OP... Or follow-on conversations by the various users.

For instance, this thread:

I'd like to see the thread minimally have tags for: Rule 16: The Putting Green

Then have a link to the USGA/R&A; rule/decision for the readers linked in the OP, so that readers can quickly understand which ruling/decision is under discussion.

If there is a breach found, list what the penalty is.

If there is a decision, list what the decision is.

In my opinion, the Mods should be able to go through and group these threads into sub-forums on a weekly or monthly basis and place them into the proper 'Rules' sections.  Meaning there would be 34 Sub Forums - and the threads would be moved to the appropriate Sub Forum (Rule 1 through Rule 34) once the thread has had a chance to take off.

I think this would greatly help users understanding of the game.  And ensure that the users of the Sandtrap are learning how to accurately play the game of golf under the current rulings of the game.

I'm not interested in creating 34 sub-forums and many rulings are related to several rulings. There's currently no way to nominate the "best answer" either, unfortunately.

Ok... So lets just keep doing it the way it is... Which is a cluster.

I'm not always looking for the 'right' answer but rather conversation. So the current method works well for me.

And 34 sub-forums with cross-linking results would be a cluster**** of another kind. So we're sticking with the devil we know rather than the one we don't, especially given the upsides of the one we know (people like conversation, less work required of moderators).

I actually like it the way it is though...I end up opening something with no real intention of spending a lot of time in the thread, then inevitably read through the entire thing and learn at least one thing I didn't know before I had read it. The new proposed system would eliminate that.

Bear in mind, we already move several metric tons of threads a month because people don't put them in the correct forums and subforums. Very few people even get the title of My Swing threads right, not to mention the formatting and video embedding. :-)

Why couldn't responders put the Rule number in the Thread title when they post?  This way there aren't any folders but you know which rule they are discussing.
