Hey all, I'm trying to find decent golf course building programs on the computer.  Whether or not they cost money is not an issue.  I just want a program where I can design courses down to specific sprinkler heads and elevation changes.  Anybody know something good like this?

On a flat featureless plain? Any 2D drafting/Cad program can do it. But in the real world you will need GIS terrain data, etc.. to properly design any courses. Autocad Civil 3D is probably among the leaders in the genre. And they are not cheap- 4K or so as a start, and a STEEP learning curve if you are not familiar with any kind of necessary education. Heck. many designers just sketch on a napkin and let the others do the techie stuff like irrigation and the like.

Some of the PC-version computerized golf games contain a fairly sophistocated course design module. I had one of the Jack Nicklaus versions (2003?). I designed a course and had about 60 work hours into tweaking it.

But then, I got my computer rebuilt and went to a new version of Windows. The new version wouldn't "reach back" to the 2003 software, and the JD files are still on my hard drive, but I can't open them.

Not sure if XBox versions contain the architecture modules.

Focus, connect and follow through!

You could also try having a look at Vectorworks, they have a plugin called 'landmark' with specific landscaping design tools.

Guess it depends on what you'd like to do as the learning curve on that is pretty steep as well, especially if you don't have any previous cad drawing experience?
