People, watch this trailer. "Do I really need a pep talk?"

"The 2013 SXSW Audience Award winner follows eight of the most competitive golfers around the globe, all who happen to be under the age of 7, as they train for and compete in the World Championship of Junior Golf."

http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/netflix-adds-the-short-game-to-its-original-documentary-slate/

It's been posted before, I'll post it again for convenience. Looks like it might be trying to quality for the Oscars this year. I doubt it'll contend with the likes of The Square, but I'll be putting this in my queue.

  • The documentary is on Instant Play Netflix. It's fun to watch IMO.

The film follows the lives of eight of the best 7-year old golfers in the world as they train for and compete in the World Championships of Junior Golf. The annual tournament held at golfing mecca Pinehurst, North Carolina, brings in 1500 young golfers from 54 different countries and determines who will be crowned golf's next phenom. In its course, the eight stories entwine to form a fascinating and often funny portrait of a group of very young athletes and their families, in which the narrow-focused, peculiar and highly competitive junior golf subculture becomes both a window into contemporary global society and an inspiring reflection of the human condition.

My daughter liked watching kids golf. She's 6 almost 7 but is nowhere near the focus these kids have.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

To me it only felt like the Tiger girl's dad and the French kid's mom were overbearing. And that's mainly because they put some much pressure on their child to perform. Otherwise it was clear that these kids have a drive for the game and that they were asking to play 365. I really liked Jed's story because golf is a great way to get him out of his shell and meet other people.

Saw it last night. Awesome documentary. I was rooting hard for Jed. Also got the vibe that a lot of these parents push these kids a bit too hard. I told my gf we should watch and she basically said "no not another golf thing" played the trailer and she begged that we watch it. Awesome watch for even non golfers

I watched it as well due to this thread. I seen a lot of golf but I also seen a lot of kids being kids. As in most of these kids situation they are building relationships that could be useful later in life. I thought it was a good movie. Found it enjoyable and would love to see a follow up movie in about 10 years

When the father says we're C people, not A people. Ouch.

Had to laugh how different junior golf is now compared to when I started in the 70's. Here it was a couple of lessons from a half drunk club pro before they sent us out with full sized clubs to hack around on the par 3 course. Even through junior high it was more like a cub scout troop. We had a team mom that would drive us around to compete against the junior teams from local courses . Nobody really paid much attention until kids were high school age. Though all little league sports were loosely organized back then. Joining a baseball or football team was waiting around in a local park for someone's dad to show up with a pickup full of used jerseys, a couple of practices with coaches that rarely remembered your name and being told to show up at field X on Sat.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
