what sort of problems could be caused by lifting up in my downswing?

First of all I would like to to say sorru if there is a similar thread I tried to search before hand and couldnt find anything but wasnt quite sure how to word my search. I have a problem with a slice. It starts straight and starts to go right between 75 and 100 yards down range. I am taking lessons and hit ok at them and the driving range but when I play a roumd it comes back. My friends say I lift my entire upper body at impact and I would have to assume if I did this during a lesson I would know about it and I do from time to time but apparently It is everytime during a round. Is it possible that this could cause a slice or is it something else im changing? Thanks in advance for your input!

First, post video if you want good input.

Second, my experience (limited and I'm a high handicapper so take it for what it's worth) standing up is a by-product of coming over the top (OTT). Simply put, your club gets so far outside the line or OTT that your body instinctively knows that something drastic has to happen to make reasonable contact with the little white ball. Work on swinging on a more inside out path to take away the necessity (reward) of standing up and your body won't need to do it any more.

Easier said than done but there it is.

Yeah similar to what Ernest said, the lifting is a compensation.  The problem could be something on the backswing or just understanding how the pressure works on the downswing.  One thing you know for sure, if you're slicing, the path is way too far to the left.  Face angle seems fine, like you said, ball starts straight.  I'd take a look at Key#2 drills to help the path.

Also you may not be lifting very much at all, not saying your buddies are lying but who knows what they're really seeing.

Whenever I lift my body it's to look to see where the ball is going.  I thought this was by far the most common reason for the move.

Not really, more to avoid hitting 3 feet behind the ball ;-)

I know I have a big problem with not getting my weight forward could this be causing me to come over the top?

Thank you. I think the drills are going to be extremely helpful. I was just looking for one thing to concentrate and work on between lessons and I have that. Thank you all!
