I disagree. Pull a rubber band or coil a spring - that's tension. Let go and you get speed. Jim McLean and his X-Factor would disagree with you as well.

Good thing this guy didn't have Jim Mclean around.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

Both equipment and our understanding of the swing has advanced since then (not to mention that swings have adapted to the advances in equipment). The X-Factor article was written a little more recently than that photo was taken...

I know I can find others... Vijay, Payne Stewart, Gary Wiren.... there are many.

I just don't think this is nearly as important to distance as anyone thinks. It's something some people do and some people dont.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

Those examples really don't help your cause. The hips are clearly rotated substantially less than the shoulders - about 45 degrees less.

Vijay gets about 50 degrees of hip rotation, but also turns his shoulders back about 110 degrees.

If you're not interested in actual discussion, I'll close the thread. Easy enough.

      Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.

      I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.

      Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
