How Are You Finding Your Tour Striker? The whole premise around the TS is that you must have a forward leaning shaft is order to get the ball off the ground. - Nice ball flight = great impact position/ forward leaning shaft/ hitting down on the ball - Worm burner = poor impact position/ flipping I purchased the Tour Striker 8 (entry level). It’s a wonderful moment when you start hitting nice high shots and you think you’ve cracked it. Unfortunately it’s not quite as simple as that. My initial optimism waned significantly when my pro recorded me hitting a good shot and I saw that I was still flipping. My gut feeling is that it’s a pretty good training aid, but not quite as good as it’s made out to be. It will punish a bad swing but won’t force you to get into the perfect impact position. i.e. It doesn’t do what the infomercial tells you it will do

I have now purchased the TS 7 Pro which is apparently harder to hit with. My plan is to get my Pro to record me and see if it’s possible to ‘cheat’ with it as well.

It may be that a ‘fat’ shot off a mat causes the ball to lift slightly meaning that a flip can still catch the sweet spot?

Interested to see how other people are getting on with their Tour Strikers?

I have a TS 7 iron, the easy one not the pro. I barely use it now i must say. I won´t say it doesn´t work, but i was expecting a greater impact on my ball striking.

In my bag:
Cleveland DST Tour 9.5 Diamana
Callaway Diablo Tour 15º

Callaway Razr 5 wood
TaylorMade Tour Preferred 3-PW
Callaway Forged 56º, Titleist Vokey 58º

I think I have the same version and tried using it when I first got it but it is now gathering dust...I might give it another shot, but I felt that I was swinging way different with it than my regular clubs- way more fat shots.  The lie angle is standard compared to +4 on my irons so it both feels and looks different at set up.  Does anyone know how much I could safely have it bent?

I have the TS #7 Pro, had been after one for an age but couldnt swallow the price new, got mine of the bay in mint condition.

I hit it off pretty hard mats, not a lot of give in them, and I find there is no way to cheat it.

Not too bad a ball striker to start with but I really wanted to find out what would happen using a TS.

I would say I was hitting appx 30% of the shots ok, right off the bat. To increase this percentage it forced me to shorten my swing slightly, stay more connected, and definitly ensure PP#1 (base of trigger finger) was in the mix. That was quite hard for me, as I'm definitly a swinger of the club not a hitter, but I soon realised that I can mix in some PP#1 pressure and not lose my "swinger" feel.

Helps me. Not for everyone.

I let my buddy hit mine on the range. He has had a very nice swing for many years. I told him to just hit balls and if they get airborne then he made a good swing. First seven balls were great, straight, high balls. Not one low shot in the bunch. He handing it back to me and said, "I don't get it."

For me, before most every round I hit some with the 7-pro. Some mornings they all go great -- just like my buddy. Other mornings I worm burn a bunch and know I have a little something to fix before moving on. I'll hit with that TS until I'm hitting them well. When I'm hit every shot well with my TS, I know I'm going to have a great ball striking day. Conversely, it can create a crisis of confidence if I never get consistent before a round. I then make sure I do some short chipping before teeing off because it is likely to be a scramble day.

Since my new tennis elbow issues, I do not beat lots of balls with the TS off hard ground. I try to make every one count. Too hard on my elbow to hit ball after ball with divots. It is possible that my TS and very hard range ground may have contributed to my tennis elbow so, be careful.

I don't use it very often. Very easy to get in the air. 7 Pro.

Good tool for a lot of people though.

Eric,

Why do you think that its very easy to get in the air? Do you mean for you personally or for the average golfer?

Do you think that it's possible to hit a good shot with it without a forward leaning shaft?

For myself, and because you can flip and still get it airborne just fine.

You bet. But if they made it any tougher almost nobody in their target market could hit it at all.

I love mine....started playing this game in Dec 11. Grabbed the 8/56 wedge set and really used the 8 to get my swing in decent shape. Gotta use the wedge one more and want to pick up the pro 5 (IIRC) to challenge myself. Have finally started getting in the 90's fairly consistently and want to get better. From my low amount of experience I think it's great aid in terms of forcing you to hit correctly. Usually use the 8 to warm up prior to a round.

I think this sums it up perfectly.

Personally, I've recently changed my swing path and have been hitting a lot of fat shots. The TS is just what I need just now as it's a lot less forgiving and is forcing me to hit the ball first (or at least a lot nearer to the ball!).

However people should be under no illusions that a good shot with a TS requires the hands ahead of the ball and a forward leaning shaft.

Note - I found that the ball placement on the mat makes a difference. At my range the mats are quite supple at the most common place that people hit from due to wear and tear.

When I moved the ball back to the other side of the mat where it is slightly more solid I found it a lot harder to hit. It may be that the softer side of the mat is allowing the TS to get under the ball even with a flip?

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
