Come on guys, you're all asleep at the wheel here. I was away for a couple of days and we have a major championship week with no thread?

I'll start it up right now!

Winner: Vijay Singh (Maybe)
Dark Horse: Stewart Cink exercises the demons from 2001 and makes another run at Southern Hills
Disappointment: Phil Mickelson- I love ya Philly Mick but you just don't seem to have it right now.
Surprises: Tiger Woods does NOT win. Top 5 though.

There are my predictions sure to be wrong, let's hear your's! Get it in writing now. Where does Sergio Choker end up? My guess, MC Hammer time baby.

I think it'd be cool to see Hunter Mahan pull this one off. I don't believe he'll specifically win, but I still think that he will be in the top ten. He seems to be here to stay. And I too also think that Mickelson won't make the cut.

Well, after last week, I'm betting on Tiger. He can't go all of '07 without a major, can he?

If Tiger doesn't do it, Cink will. Let there be a 4th time new major champion this year, and Cink is my first choice to do it, especially since Harrington can't win his first major next week.

Hi

Tiger has to be favourite for this tournament...but i have to ask if it is really a major?..it has a big purse but there are many tournaments that now have an equivalent purse but are not considered to be a major..this matter was discussed at length by the sandtrap academics in the archives but the jury is still out on this matter

why isn't the Players Champs considered to be a 'major'?

In my view, Augusta, The Open and the US Open are really the only true majors because of their history and the kudos that goes with winning one.

Anyway, other players to watch are Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson. I would like to see John Daly make the cut and do well but perhaps this is asking for too much. Watch out for a spiritual appearance from Bobby Jones and David Duval!

The players consider it a major, the PGA of America considers it a major, and golf historians consider it a major. While I'll admit it might not be the best of all of them I wouldn't quite consider it chopped liver either.

Spiritual appearances by David Duval would be a start, any idea if he ever plans on playing again?

I'll post my top 10 and the players I like/don't like soon but to me this one is setting up for Tiger. A lot of the other "big guns" are not coming into this tournament in good form. Phil avoided his 4th straight missed cut last week pretty much because there was no cut. Furyk was as good as anyone but how is his injury? Vijay is solid but can he win ? Adam Scott seems to have lost it. Donald hasn't done much, Els, Goosen are OK but hard to picture them winning.

I just have to ask, as there is no way I can watch this at the telly. Is it possible to stream it live over the internet?

I have made one hole in one this far. While you are reading this, I am most likely out on the tee trying to sink another one

I think I have to pick Tiger... I know I'm going out on a limb there but if you exclude El Tigre, I think Hunter Mahan is the guy to watch. Had a chance to watch him at Firestone. He is truely a ball stricker works the ball nicely and really thinks although on the 16th it wasn't such a good shot. Take Tiger out and I'm pulling for Mahan.

PGA typically has the deepest field of any tourney because there are no amateurs. To say it doesn't have history is a bad excuse because it's been around before the Masters. the Players is too young and there is no history of considering it a major. To add it would change the totals and with Tiger approaching Jack, that would be weird. If anything, I would think you add the US Am as a major before Players since that was actually considered one back in the day.

My top 5 in no particular order:

Tiger Woods - Obviously a choice, played great at Firestone. Needs to win a major this year.

Hunter Mahan - Has been playing AMAZING golf the past couple of weeks, would like to see him do well.

Adam Scott - He needs a good finish...

Andres Romero - Better then Phil IMHO. I'm looking for a win or a top 10 from him.

Jim Furyk - Played great to win against Vijay, could do great at SH.

Losers- Phil, Vijay, Cink (:P)

Although the PGA kind of comes out of nowhere and is played right after the WGC it holds alot of potential to be the most exciting major of the year..

I think the course will provide the right amount of drama, at 7,131 it doesnt play favorites, there are alot of birdie opportunities. I like the fact that its tree lined. Personally i dont think we'll see a long hitter win this week.

If Tiger plays like last week then he'll be the obvious choice but I'll stick to my guns and say we'll see more of a tactition/putter win (although that puts Tiger in the mix aswell).

will play well.. Vijay Singh, Zach Johnson, Chris Dimarco, Tiger Woods, Kj Choi, Aaron Baddely, Tim Clark, Joe Ogilvie, Aaron Oberholser, Mike Weir, Jose' Maria, Stephen Ames, Jim Furyk, Ben Curtis. Im gonna be the black sheep and say Phil makes the cut.

Scott Verplank 55/1 (From Oklahoma, been in the hunt)
Hunter Manham 45/1 (For the 3rd straight week with me, has fallen apart on Sundays)
Padraig Harrington 28/1 (Lots of people love this play, riding their coat tails.)
