Over 40 Crowd: How often do you practice? - Page 2

I turn 55 in a couple of days, play once or twice a week, never practice during the golf season.  I might hit a bucket of balls once or twice in April or May, but once I start my regular weekends of golf I never practice.

52 here. I've only been playing for 3 years so practice a lot as I feel I need to 'catch up'.

I'll do a full practice once or twice a week (a bucket of balls on wedges through to driver, 2 buckets if feeling off, plus 45 minutes hitting pitches, chips, sandwedges and putts). Total 100 minutes.

I'll maybe do a short practice (different location, only pitches, chips and putts possible) once a week. Total 45 mins.

And I play once, sometimes twice a week (18 holes).

I try to avoid practice on the day before I play 18 as I feel I get tired quickler.

I try to have a "14-day warm-up" in March to get ready for the season. I try to pick up the clubs and do something every day or two. Not 36 holes or anything like that. The first couple of days I just go through my lesson cards from the prior season, see where I am. Then, bucket - nine holes - rest - corrective small bucket.

If I don't do this in March or April, a hit-and-miss season usually follows.

If I haven't played in a few days, I'll go through the bag with a small bucket on Tuesday evening if I'm playing Wednesday. If I'm playing regularly, 20 full shots and some chips and putts get me ready to tee off.

Drop-in practices sessions going to and from work usually involve a small bucket of woods and irons, or short-game practice. Next to short game, the most important thing for me is keeping the driver and FWs in play.

I probably practice too much during season, and should just go out and play more.

I'm 62, and have an arthritic right hip. So, I sometimes stop by the gym for 15 minutes on the treadmill to loosen/warm things up before I play. (Gym is a mile from clubhouse).

if i have time, twice a week over lunch (my club is 8 minutes from my office) and golf on friday. i don't play weekends very off often due to family. if and when i can do this the HC drops to an 8 occasionally a 7.

typically the last 2 years it seems my practice is about 20 balls to loose on friday morning and off we go...this leads me to an HC of between 11-13...sigh.
