Sounds crazy...but it WORKS!!!

Played golf the other day with an older Gentleman that joined our threesome. The three of us are going nuts after a while with all the gnats buzzing in our ears, eyes, and noses...but not the old guy. He shared his secret with us. He uses one of those Bounce fabric softner sheets you throw in the dryer. He takes the sheet and quickly wipes his face, ears & neck with it, then throws it in his hat! The next day I tried it and it worked GREAT! I could feel the gnats buzzing my arms, so I took the sheet out of my hat, wiped my LEFT arm only and tossed it back under my hat. Guess what? They buzzed my right arm but never touched my left arm the rest of the day!

Not only was I "bug-free"...I smelled pretty fresh too!

That's probably toxic for your skin.

Why would you think that?  It's designed to treat the clothes that you wear next to your skin all day, every day.  It's one of those "everyday" items which turns out to have multiple uses.

See THIS page for a comprehensive list.

Huh.  Gonna try that, and some of the other things on the list too.

Thanks!

I've known about the dryer sheet thing for a while now.  I work Military Funerals and we always put them in our hats to keep the bugs away.  Nothing more annoying than trying to stand perfectly still while gnats are all over your face.

It does work.

I can remember standing inspection in basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood many moons ago (1965) and having a mosquito drilling for blood in my neck while the officer is inspecting my weapon.  Standing still without twitching was the hardest thing I did during the entire basic training cycle.

Do you think that the guards at Buckingham Palace use this too?  Seems like an idea that I'd explore in their situation.

They don't have to worry too much about bugs there.  A friend of mine moved to England (Avon) 10 years ago.  The house he rented didn't have any screens.  The Realtor said they didn't need them.

Here's another one for ya, "skin so soft" ... by Avon! ya can pick it up cheap on eBay! It's a skin moisturiser, which by pure coincidence contains an ingredient called "citronella" which ALL flying bugs and insects can't stand! I only stumbled on this gem earlier this year whilst constantly dancing with horse flies! A couple of Scottish gents gave me the tip! Pump Spray it on, its non greasy, it won't stain ya clothes, smells nice, moisturises ya skin, but most importantly, you'll never get bothered again, I've since read people who travel to Thailand and other exotic places who never leave home without it! And it's a fraction of the price of so called " repellents"

They actually make a Skin So Soft bug spray here.  Citronella is OK, but really aggressive bugs will go right through it.

Skin so Soft gets very mixed reviews - for years it's been a bit of a myth for stopping the sand fleas and no-see-ums that plague tropical beaches.  Most who have tried it will tell you that it does nothing at all, except maybe make your skin so slippery that the bugs just slide off. ;-)

Yeah your right about getting skin so soft on your hands, but it's worked brilliant for me! I'm the one who insects live to bite, I've travelled a bit in the past and I've always ended up with twice as many bites as anyone else, Bugs love me! I'm just so tasty to the little critters! I joined a new club this year and this summer I was plagued with horse flies! I had golf ball size swellings all over my legs, arms and neck, had to stop wearing shorts! Then some guy told of skin so soft and I seriously have never been bitter since! I usually rub some in before I leave, wash my hands, then spray a bit more without rubbing in before tee off, it's good stuff!

It is the silicone polymers in Skin So Soft that gives the slippery, smooth skin feel.  Silicone spreads very easily, so it will eventually make it to your hands.

Sand fleas are like black flies.  They are truly among the most evil of insects. Nothing chases them away. Rumor has it that it was black flies that drove the Vikings out of North America.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.
