Hey all,

Coming to the forums yet again for advice.  I have been consistently hitting a pretty push draw since I took the 5SK school.  However, recently I've had a small stumble.

When I attempt to hit a push draw I am not getting a draw at all, or a very minor one, if any.  I am simply pushing it (which shows I am swinging in to out).

When I started to struggle with this on the course I simply tried to hit the ball straight to keep it in the fairway, etc.  The problem was that when I tried to hit it straight I started hitting straights draws.

I know this may be hard to correct without seeing my most recent swings, but am trying to figure out what I may be doing wrong.  I am assuming in the push draw failure I am simply not closing the club face to my path.

What am I doing it when trying to hit it straight?

Very frustrating.  Thanks for the help.

Jeff

How far to the right is the ball starting?  Ideally for a push draw, if you start the ball on the correct start line and it doesn't draw back, you would still be on the green, in the fairway, etc.  In other words, it's not like we're trying to start every shot 20 yards right of the target and draw it back ;-)

It is not going far off target.  I didn't intend for it to sound like I was pushing 20 yards to the right.  Generally if I am aiming at a stick in the middle of the green I am landing just off the green to the right.  After what I felt was my attempt to stop drawing the ball (and failing) I was missing off to the left a bit.  It could be an alignment issue.  I will say that the one thing I was I had pushed for more information at the school was how to aim correctly at a target when attempting to hit a draw.

Stock shot: aim the face where you want it to start and aim the body at the target.  On the course if you need a little more draw, you can just aim the body a little to the right.  On the range, if you don't see the ball drawing, I would focus on Key#2.  Maybe go back and look at notes from the 5SK school.  Could be other issues at play but without seeing the swing, this would be my advice.

What did you do differently  to make this adjustment?

Sorry, I lost track of this when I got busy at work.  Thanks for the advice.  I had a good range session last night and was hitting the ball much better on the course today.

    • No, they will collect the "Stay & Play" cost at the Virtues on Sunday. I was a little surprised by that, I would collect on Saturday, but I guess the person doing the reservations & bills is located at the Virtues.  I think we can trust that none of us are going to run out on the bill and leave us in a lurch.
    • Thanks for following up. Since you're going to be booking the stay and play packages, does that mean you have to put up the money up front?
    • They're playing 16 games in each match though. Don't need much of an advantage before that number of players significantly loads things in their favor. The other team has to win 8.5 games to beat them. At a 65/35 split, that's a lot and pretty unlikely (about 10% of the time).
    • Why does the second sentence have to be true? If they're used to playing a tough course that's improperly rated, they're going to both have inflated indexes and have higher skills relative to them. If their home course features a variety of different challenges, I don't see why their game wouldn't travel well. And on the flip side, some courses and their members take pride in how hard their course is and how tough it's rated, and that bit of vanity ends up hurting them in these kinds of competitions.
    • I discussed it today but can call back and re-confirm.  I would love to be wrong on that point. Note: That may have been before they changed the hotel due to lack of room at Hampton Inn. Update on Friday Hotel: If I can give a count to EagleSticks they can get us a discount on Friday night at the hotel.  I do not have the $$ but should be much lower than the $249 the hotel quoted me. I do not have my list with me for the Friday hotels but if you want one, please post ASAP and I will get the rate and get them held. Thanks @billchao for catching this.
