Reignwood LPGA Classic Preview & Pairings

Pretty impressive display of good golf  by Feng Shanshan.  The final hole of the tourney, par 5, and Stacy Lewis lays up to protect the lead of one stroke. Feng hits a sweet hybrid to the green, over the pond to 10 feet and drains the eagle for the win. She ain't much to look at, but Feng plays terrific golf.  And in front of the home crowd, wow!

It wasn't a sweet or terrific shot, it was an underclubbed shot that got lucky and instead of bouncing back into the water fronting the green, bounced upward off a rock or a patch of hard dirt onto the green and hit the flagstick.  Sure luck plays a role in every golf tournament, but that wasn't the sort of luck exemplified by a chip-in (i.e. "the more I practice, the luckier I get" sort of "luck"), this was just dumb luck.

Luck?  What direction does the ball have to be going in and at what speed to hit the flag stick and land three feet away?  There's water all up the right side.  It was a dangerous shot with the water but one she chose to make and did.  Now people call her lucky.  Sheesh
