Just found out recently that the 714 series of Titleist Irons will be released and available in early November! I have been eyeing a set of the 712 AP1's or AP2's however think I may now wait for the 714 series! Who else is planning on gaming these when they come out? Neat looking clubs I must say

I'd be more likely to wait until the 714's are out for a bit, and then pick up some 712's cheap.

Very little difference between the 712 & 714 - mostly the bounce is modded on the 714 which is undetectable by most of us...get teh 712s cheap when you can.  Honestly, I haven't even felt the need to up my 710 AP2s really.

I heard the same, the difference between the 712 & 714 is minimal especially compared to 710 & 712.  Many have said the 712 CB/MB are almost identical to the 714 versions.

The 714's look lovely. I've 710's ap1's and haven't even thought about changing as I'm playing well with them and they're sweet. Watching a review last night on the 714's got me wanting them but there gonna be pricy!

hmmm I was looking at buying some new Irons this weekend, so not sure what I'll do if I like the AP1's! Guess if they're the best fit, then will wait for the 714's

Speaking of titleist any news on a new driver coming out!?

913 D2/D3 are out.  Given Titleist's product cycles you probably won't see anything new until end of next season or 2015.

I would never invest in a set of titleist without a fitting. It's like buying a suit without tailoring...that brings the price of a new set of AP2s to about $1200. That set should be relevant for at least 5 years and that's the way titleist markets clubs. Simply the best if it can be afforded...

So how much different is AP2 from S55? Are they both made for players with the same ability level?I have my eye on both and was hoping for someone to tell me the differences.

All good fitters have a ping and titleist cart...do yourself a favor and hit them both. Don't let others make the decision for you.

I am seriously looking at the new Titleist 714s. From what I have read there are significant changes in the AP irons, particularly the AP1. My G20s were perfect for my 20 handicap when I bought them, but I am now thinking something more versatile might fit my game better now. I am still a bit torn between AP1 and AP2 and looking forward to actually hitting the new clubs. Ultimately, I will let the fitter guide me there, but I am seriously thinking of perhaps a mixed set with AP1 in the longer irons for the added forgiveness, then AP2 in the scoring clubs for the softer feel. I completely agree that fitting is an absolute must. Fortunately, I have a Titleist Advanced Fitting Center nearby.

Jim I'm kinda in the same boat as you with my current clubs. I have G15's and have improved my ball striking a lot.

Not sure i understand the "my ball striking has improved so I need to upgrade my clubs" reasoning. You want to get different clubs because you're hitting the ball well? IMO stick with what you have unless youre looking for a different result. Ie if you want to bring your trajectory down then you might switch to an AP2 or CB, or get a different shaft (C-Taper or PX). But it's not like G20s have an upper limit on GIRs. FWIW AP1 and G20 are comparable designs and aimed at the same type of player.

Well, I freely admit that there is an element of "something new and shiny" in my new club wants.

My G20s have served me really well and have helped my game a lot since I got them.  That said, one of my current gripes about the G20s is the massive sole the clubs have.  Of course, this isn't all bad, and certainly seems to help launch from tighter lies.  However, when the lie is fluffier I find that they are somewhat "dead" if you catch the ball higher on the face.  I have found that my pitching has really improved when I swapped to a Vokey lob wedge from the Ping that came with the set, though they share the same loft and bounce.  Part if this is perhaps silly and shows my lack of ability to focus, but the large "flange" on the back of the G20 wedge often caught in the wiry grass we have around here on the back stroke which tends to distract me worse than I like to admit.  This is an issue with most of the rest of the set as well and goes on my excuse for new clubs list. Sadly, the new AP1s look as if they have a deeper open cavity than the 712s did, so I don't know if this excuse may go up in smoke or not.

I do recognize that the AP1 and G20 are both "Game Improvement" clubs, and appreciate that, as you so aptly suggest, there is no upper limit on GIRs with either.  That is why I am seriously thinking about a mixed set, sticking to easier to hit long irons.  I have also considered getting a set of Ping I20s, perhaps used, and blending them with the G20s.  This would certainly be the most economical solution, but I'm getting to be a real Titleist fan and I'm really liking the look of the 714s.  Something new and shiny, you know....

I play the 712 AP1's that I was fitted for by a Titleist fitter when I bought them. They are great clubs and i would see no reason to change to the 714's. They look great, but i cant see how they'd help. The 714's have a couple differences compared to the 712's. The stock shaft is lighter and the lofts have been strengthened from the 7 iron through the GW. If I was in the market for new irons, I'd definitely give the 714's a look though.

I absolutely cannot wait until I get a chance to game these!  I've been waiting (semi-patiently) for the 714s, as I'm still on the AP2 708s.  I know that they officially come out November 8th, so does anyone know if they will be doing fittings before that, or will it have to occur after then?

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
