A year ago I bought a nickent 7dx hybrid for a great price of $70. I got this hybrid because I was just unable to hit my 5 iron (2008 big bertha) effectively.

The problem I am having now is I have never been able to effectively hit the club off the tee.

I don’t often use a 5Iron, usually on long par 5s and long par 3’s.

I will say this club out of the rough is great, it glides and flies through it. However off the tee and fairway, the head feels oversized and heavy on the toe. This causes me to leave the club face open often and shank and slice this club more often than I should.

My 5iron (i-brid) does not have the pop that a hybrid has, does not have the distance, but I do not slice it. I have to say in the last year my irons and long irons have got better.

I keep telling myself I am relatively young (40) and should be hitting a 5 iron not a 5 hybrid.

But when I get 170/180 out I was not carrying a 5i the way I should.

But my 5 H is flying all over the place.

I am locked in with my 4H, but that is my 200y club.

Lastly the 5H is the odd club out.

My irons are all callaways

My hybrid-woods are taylormade.

The 5H is a nickent-so it feels different than everything.

I guess I am asking for advice as to when do you give up on a club?

When do you pull it from your bag and admit to making a mistake in buying it?

We buy clubs when one club does not work to our liking. Well when the replacement club is not a proper replacement, where do you go from there?

I am not sure if this is a question any longer or I just needed to type and think it out!

The Nickents always felt heavy and hard to me - had one about 10 years ago - it lasted 2 rounds.

Try this 25 hy and/or 30 hy for $112. Usually $159, it's on sale.

I have both - nice clubs - I put away my RBZ Stage 2 Hy for these.

The shaft is decent - it is a made for Graphite Design G Series in the 70g+ range. Gets up easily and great out of trouble - the original trouble club redesigned - bigger for confidence. Ortiz makes easier to hit clubs for mid to high cappers. Low cappers with fast speed need another shaft.

I've hit the fairways - nice looking club and easy to elevate; the hybrids are winners, too.

I'm fortunate to be happy with my 5i, but have been shopping hybrids for the 3 and 4 slots.  I finally settled on a 7 wood to replace the 3 and am real comfortable with that choice, but still haven't found a 4 that really works better than my G20 iron.  My problem with hybrids in general is that I seem much more prone to hooking them than any other clubs.  I've finally decided that when I get myself off the disabled list I'm going to get properly fitted for a Titleist that we can perhaps adjust some of the hook out of.

I have to give the OP credit though, I usually abandon clubs that aren't working for me much quicker.

The only reason I have hung on soo long with the 5H, is that once I put money into it, I cant afford to get anything else.
Just this year I bought a used Callaway Driver with a Stiff shaft for $100, but I was unable to use it on the course. Not anywhere near what I was doing at the range (which caused me to buy it).

Like I said I have a 4H (taylormade).

I still think I am a little young and have too much power and distance to hit a 5 H, but All i think of is all the clubs sitting in my spare bag that I have spent money on.

If anything I am just putting my 5I back in the bag.

And dont get me started on 3H- I am have toyed with the idea of weather to carry a 3hybrid or a 5 or 7 wood.

If you're new to the game, I'd carry a 7w at 41 inches (or 41.5)  instead of a 3H.

Bigger head, more forgiving, lower COG - easier to launch.

My fav club last year was a 910 7 wd with a Bassara 55g shaft - high and easy. Then a playing partner hit a ball that hit the 7 wd and put a dent in it - even with the cover on it... oh, well. Down goes the 7 wood! Down goes ...

That Tight Lies 2013 7 wood is looking mighty good... but I have a 21H Bobby Jones to test and review.

Sadly, I have quite a stack going myself.  Golfsmith takes trades, and I'm waiting for the next time I find something I want off the rack.  I doubt I'll recover much, but at least it will remove some of the potential "evidence" that my wife could use against me. :-P

I wonder if they would take 'em in trade on some balls?

My local golf Galaxy takes trades as well but I am probably getting only $5 for the 3 drivers, 1- 7 wood and 2 volkey wegdes (54 & 60) I no longer carry.

I liked my 7 wood, but it was an old Bertha metal head, that I got for $100. But I can not use it out of the rough, which is where I seem to play out of quite often.

My 4 Hybrid gives me 200 yards, so as much as I would like a 3, I dont know where it would fit.

3W-230

5W 215

4H 200

My game on my home course is basically to bang it out 260+ with my driver and then a wedge/short iron in.

As it is I rarely use my 5W, so much so I have dropped it out. I can go rounds without ever using my 5 or 6 (except on par 3's).

I am thinking of keeping the 5W and using my 5 and 3W off the tee more than my driver, this way I dont get in as much trouble.

But I have got some valuable info out of this thread. Thank you!
