im hitting older callaway x20 irons not the tour version the standard ones. anyway i been misshitting them for the past year, couldnt figure out why, but i was playing sunday and all of a sudden, i make a turn focusing on turning my back shoulder behing my ear ( just the feeling ) and boom started striping them againg. i basically make a good turn back and then back through. i pretty much hit every shot solid!!! but the ball flys really high and theres about a two club loss in distance from about a year before. i know im not flipping because i can really feel the compression and its really solid contact. i had the different shafts put in and they are project x 6.0 . so why is the ball balooning on me? help!!! evry club in my bag is doing this my 3 wood im only hitting it 200 -215 when i normally hit it 240- 250. all clubs are doin this.

You're flipping. It may be center contact but you're still flipping.

Take video ... you may not feel flipping.

Think of driving through the ball with the front wrist in front of the ball at impact - just that image may help. That may also help keep your left shoulder down at the start of the downswing.

im a lefty..... but i doubt i can flip and compress the ball. when i hit an 8 iron or 6 iron onto the green , the ball is next to the ball mark, im in the az scottsdale area now. i know that it looks like when i flip the club its straight into the air , and a straight ball flight, my ball flight is a high weak fade!! almost like im holding the club off.

Move the ball slightly up in your stance and see what happens - get your spin down, and/or try a lower spin ball.

i have it helps a little , i know its spinning  i can here it after impact, it cuts thru the wind but dies , i know its solid impact, not catching it in the middle of the clubface flipping, maybe angle of attack being to steep. my clubs are i think 3 degrees upright and im 5'9 but its def not flipping if i flatten it out a bit i might catch it thin. being they have offset im scared to really release the club and hook it. not sure what the lie is on my three, five wood or hybrids are though. my hybrids have steel shafts in them . but i know i should be hitting them further, my 19 degree i can only get 200 yards from it.

5'9" and 3 up? - that's a bunch. I'd think you'd be standard lie or a bit flat. Not knowledgeable enough to know the effect on spin.

I can only think it's a swing issue with a very steep AOA - is the club digging deep (deep divot) after impact? If so, steep. If your weight is forward, you should be okay to shallow out. Check to see if your low point is when the club is around the thigh of your back leg. Do a search - I know MVMAC has some vids on this... try his swing video with a search.

Your description of having the ball ballooning with irons and woods indicates that you probably have your weight on your back foot and not making the transfer to your right / front side at impact. Can you feel if your right heel is raised slightly up when you make contact?

Playing into a strong headwind creates havoc with getting the weight transfer in sync with a swing.

This would cause a steep angle into the ball at impact will produce more backspin which would balloon into a head on wind direction.

I would be guessing that you are very strong in the torso, arms and shoulders to be able to swing a club in this manner.

Try 3/4 swings and work on tempo to get your swing back into proper sync.

Club's having a 3* degree upright position should produce a draw spin / flight of the ball.

Doctor Desmond is right on with his suggestions " I can only think it's a swing issue with a very steep AOA"

Why can't you flip and compress the ball? I think what you feel as compression is just solid, centered contact. I'm not exactly sure you can feel a ball compressing off the clubface.

Not sure what your ball on the green next to its mark has to do with anything other than it indicates that you either hit it with a lot of spin or it ha a steep angle of descent.

Do you film your swing? That will tell you what you are really doing, rather than what you think you are doing.
