Ok guys, is it time to start planning out next outing/taunting all the people in cold weather states? I know there was talk at the last outing of playing a round in early to mid January (you know, when its only in the 70s). Chime in in interested with potential locales, dates, etc. Also, let everyone out there know how nice it is playing in January =)

I can't make any commitment at this time. New baby will be here. Plus I have a trip to Taiwan pending in Jan before the Chinese New Year. The first quarter of 2014 is going to be real crazy schedule wise.

I have no idea what my available dates are yet.  We have guests in town from New York sometime in the middle of January, and I have a couple of tournaments I hope to play in January and February.  Unfortunately, I don't yet have the exact dates for any of those.

Just looked at Drew's link. Crossings, would be nice, too. I'm up for it, but for those of us in the LA area, we should make it later in the morning so we don't all have to book hotels. I might overnight it just for a mini family vacation.

For me, January is a pretty good month. No vacations or work trips planned currently and unlike Beachcomber, my wife isn't due until March. I don't have my personal schedule set that far down the road, but I am guessing that most weekends and locations would work fine for me.

Depending on how many folks we get, I think mixing up the format is a great idea. A Ryder Cup style format (two teams) where we send out group in competing 4-ball matches would be a lot of fun, but I am game for anything.

January sounds good to me. I'd be for mixing up the format as well if for no other reason than to try something new. It might be kind of cool to try do some match play or something like that.

I'd be for doing it in the SD area as well. There are a lot of nice courses out there and we haven't been out that way yet. Coming out my way (Palm Springs area) could also be an option. The weather is perfect out here although it could be a little on the pricey side. If that's something you'd guys would like to look into, however, let me know and I'll call some of the courses up.

No idea what Erik is talking about lol  I could look into it, I think my guest fees are about $70 but not sure if I could bring out four groups on the weekend, Sunday afternoon would be probably be the best time, no chance on Sat or Sun morning.  They usually schedule "outside" tournament event on Monday.

      I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
