best beginners golf book?

How old is he?  Really, IMO, one hour with him on the practice green, with a cut-down if need be,  7i and maybe a simple putter in order to give him a feel of the game might be better than  looking at a page or video screen.  Who ever learned or liked the piano by looking at a page of notes?

"The Elements of Scoring" by Ray Floyd. It doesn't have a whole lot of technique in it but it contains a tremendous amount of golf common sense and course management advice that would be very helpful to the beginning golfer. This would be good to get him in addition to a main golf technique book or video.

You have many good suggestions for books.

I would recommend going to The First Tee program, or some other youth golf group. It would be more enjoyable and he could make friends.
