I love cold weather golf. If the weather guy predicts 37° or above, my retired friend and I are out the door. We are schedule to play this Tuesday with the predicted high of 38°. Br-r-r-r-rilliant. Rules for cold weather golf: 1) layer up; 2) woolly cap, heavy socks, and cold weather golf gloves; 3) play forward tees because the ball doesn't go as far (and we are old); 4) try to walk the course for at least 9 holes (golf carts on a cold, windy day can be brutal); 5) have hot coffee to get started and a hot Toddie at the end.

We also head to the indoor range when there is snow on the ground. Not as good as the real thing, but it gets us out of the house and provides a good excuse to go to lunch.

Summer -> Golf, Winter -> Squash. I wish I could golf year round, but i'd probably be broke if I could.

A little water falls from the sky and we're lost!!  Notice the person videotaping the broadcast laughing hysterically at us the whole time?

I laugh at West coasters and folks who live in warmer climes, when it hits high 50s, they start breaking out the gloves and heavy jackets.

I'm planning to play in 35 degree weather tomorrow morning...if I can find a course near Albany NY that's open. Haha

Knowing we weren't going to see 40 degrees this weekend, I packed a bunch of work in and took Thursday off. Now its Friday night and I'm trying to convince myself that a 36-degree high isn't that bad.

Do it! If you were anywhere near me, I'd say let's play together!

I'm really leaning that way.

I'm in Dayton, OH, but I do got a brother in Hudson.

Well, I don't live on the East Coast or up North and the #1 reason I don't is because you can't play golf year round.  As far as rain and cold are concerned, I look at it this way.  I have no problem playing in the rain.  I have no problem playing in the cold.  But, I pretty much draw the line on playing when it is both raining and cold.  Cancelling a tournament this weekend because the weather calls for wind chill of 36* at tee time with showers.  Just not worth it.

I don't mind extreme golf at all, wind rain chill, bring it on!
All at once? So what! If the course is open then it's game on! Just gotta dress accordingly, tomorrow I'll be in a cotton t shirt, lamb wool sweater for warmth, and a super thin windstopper to keep the chill out! Don't forget the Wooly hat and winter gloves,

My plan is long johns, tee shirt, long sleeve polo shirt, and wind breaker. :)

Tomorrow isn't supposed to be picnic weather but we'll be playing.

Lots of clothes, hand warmers, and an umbrella.

Not late enough yet for my cart cover and propane heater in the cart...But I'm ready for that too.

Seriously.  I'm in LA and was about to bitch about the wind this morning.  Then I remembered I can play golf pretty much 365 days per year  and the concept of golf course "closing" for an entire season is ridiculous.  Decided we got it pretty damn good.

About 12 yrs ago, we were playing a public track in Feb. Temps were mid 50's. I had on some dockers slacks, a long sleeve t-shirt with a collard shirt, and a nike windbreaker. On the 3rd hole it started raining cats and dogs, wind picked up to about 15 mph, so we were playing in a semi driving rain. To make a long story short, we played all 18, but at the end, we were Soaked, and Cold.

Playing in the rain is a unique experience that every golfer should experience. So yeah, so cali does have some crumby days, but not many.

That's friggin' hilarious.  Hope LA is holding up ok :-P  I have to go do some birthday shopping for my wife and I'm bummed it's too cold for sandals.

Made a quick run to the store for canned goods and bottled water.  It was touch and go for awhile ... honestly wasn't sure if I was going to make it, but I got back safe.  We'll just hole up here until it all blows over. ;)  Stay safe everybody!!! :-P

Hand warmers seem like a good idea!
