Hi I am new to these forums.

I started playing golf around 5 months ago and I love to play. I got my first set (2nd hand) of Mizuno irons but I am at a stage now where I wanna splash out on some new clubs as I am getting quite a lot better.

The thing is my irons are in good nick they are just old. Mizuno MX 20's. The irons are the only older club I have.

In my bag I have

- MP A302 mizuno putter

- JPX 825 Hybrid

- RBZ Driver

I've just got the RBZ driver and I love it. Such a nice club. I did want the JPX 825 Irons but they are still a bit too pricey. They have the Taylormade Rocketballz irons brand new for around £250.

Do you think I should save up for the JPX 825's or give the TM RBZ irons a go? I like the look of both clubs.

Thanks

I's save up for the Mizunos.

But take a whack at the RBZ Irons and see if you love the look and hit them well. If not, wait. Mizuno is known for their irons.

Nice one. They are my preferred out of the both it's just the price. Missus bashed me up for spending so much already

You should go for the cast JPXEZ....not the forged version since you're a beginner and all...no offence btw but that's the set I would go for if I was just starting out. Taylor Made with the acquisition of Adams Golf is probably number one in the golf industry followed by Callaway, Titleist and Ping. I've noticed a lot of TMs new products resemble Adams equipment.

I just bought the JPX-825's and so far they have been great for me.  2 years ago when my handicap was 24, I would have hated these clubs.  I used Callaway Diablo Edge's for 3 years and just upgraded to the Mizuno's.  If I didn't go with the Mizuno's I would have bought the Callaway X-Hot's.  They were very comparable to the Mizuno's, probably a little more forgiving.  That's not to say that the Mizuno's are not forgiving, the Callaway's just felt a little more solid on all shots.  I went with the Mizuno's, because my game is getting better and I would like more feedback.

I shoot an average of 85 at the moment and the mx20s I use are forged. What's the difference between forged and not? My irons are the best part of my game very consistent and accurate

Forged are milled from a single billet of metal whereas cast are made by pouring the molten metals into a cast. Most cavity backs are cast an more forgiving. Blades are forged an more workable for low hdcp players. With your hdcp I'd go to a gi cavity back set.

Ah I never knew that. My irons are forged though and I play really well with them. My handicap is probably a lot lower than 27 I have not got one yet but like I said I average 85 a round. Thanks for the tip though it's good to know. I would have gone out and got forged just because they are what I'm using now

Get a set of JPX-800s.  They are almost the same as 825s and you should be able to find a set for a reasonable price.  A couple months back I scored a set off of Ebay for $250.  TM makes nice woods but I wouldnt waste my time with their irons.  Theyre OK but theyre no Mizunos.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

Actually Adams makes better Irons than Mizuno IMO and TM owns Adams Golf. Just found out they operate as separate entities however.

Adams is owned by TM and Adams Golf makes the best GI irons in the game IMO.

Just curious (i.e. I'm not arguing) but what makes you think Adams irons are better? Looks? Forgiveness? "Feel"? Manufacture process? "Technology"?

I might actually go for the JPX EZ irons. They are actually cheaper than the JPX 825's because the set doesn't come with a 4iron which I don't use anyway. Only reason I wanted the TM irons was because they are really cheap at the shop near me. It's just me being impatient really. I definitely want either the JPX 825 or EZ. Only thing with the EZ is they are not forged and the clubs i'm using at the moment are. I don't know how much this will differ but I will test them before I buy them anyway.

???? The JPX EZ comes standard 4-GW....unless you buy used on ebay or special order.

    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
