I took the plunge and ordered the Joey D golf package and it arrived last night. Im pretty excited to start it today. It's basically P90X for golfers 20 minutes 3 days per week. On off days he "suggests" 20 mins of cardio with a rest day thrown in. For those of you wondering who the heck is Joey D he wrote the book "Fix your body fix your swing." Boogielicious reviewed the book for TST a while back and gave it a thumbs up. Hes worked with Vijay Singh, Fredrik Jacobson, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, and Jason Dufner. Based on the positive reviews Im hoping this is something that will make me more durable on the golf course. Not trying to sound like an infomercial or anything I just know that guys often come here to the fitness section looking for golf specific workouts. I'll give it a go for a few weeks and report back here. My set came with: The Golf Body 1 DVD Bilateral Upper Body Resistance Bands Mono-loop Lower Body Resistance Band 65cm Fitness Ball (pump included) Small Sport Ball (pump included) Workout Tracker and Weekly Planner If you have a few of these things at home the program/items can be ordered a la carte. I got the whole thing for $120

@RonTheSavage ,

Are you going to write a review?  That would be helpful.

I purchased this book and am about 5 weeks into using the exercise program.

Ever since I had leukemia, chemo, a bone marrow transplant, the long hospital stau, and the resulting Graft vs. Host disease... I thought flexibility was my main problem.  Going through the tests in this book I discovered that in addition to my flexibility problems, I'm no longer very good at balance either.  I think they are related in that I'm stiff in my lower leg and ankles, that contributes to making it hard to balance on one leg

I am already sensing improvements, mostly in my flexibility.

I'm giving this book a thumbs up.

Note - don't get the Kindle version.  There are missing pictures and it's a really big hassle paging through a kindle to get to the exercise descriptions.  There are a lot of exercises that vary from routine to routine, and I've been prescribed 16 separate routines.  That's a lot of time spent paging trough a Kindle.  In an actual book you could mark down page numbers next to the exercises per routine and get to the descriptions easily.  I've ordered an actual book to replace my Kindle version.

@boogielicious, I've searched this site but can not find your review.  If you (or anyone else) can find it a link would be appreciated.

The products reviews section on the old site isn't available anymore.

I'm assuming that's where it was @boogielicious but maybe you can provide a summary of your experience.

Don't have the actual link but I believe this is what @boogielicious wrote:

Pros: Golf specific, can be done anywhere, improves flexiiblity and strength.

Cons: A bit pricey. Need fitness balls for some of the workout components.

I am always looking for workouts that improve my fitness.  After years of bike racing and a couple of surgeries, my body had lost flexibility in some areas including upper body rotation, shoulder rotation and hips.  I've been doing stretching and therapy exercises, but that wasn't improving my flexibility all the way. My limiters were how far I could rotate my shoulders on the back swing and the follow through. I also would stiffen up a lot during a round in my lower back and SI joint.  This really shortens your swing.

I bought Joey D's book, Fix Your Body, Fix Your Swing and reviewed it here.   Fix Your Body, Fix Your Swing: The Revolutionary Biomechanics Workout Program Used by Tour Pros . But the book does have some limitation.  It does not show you in real motion how to do the exercises.  I already had the resistance bands and had the fitness balls at my gym, so I bought the DVD.

From the website:

Learn tour-proven methods at your own pace from a Pro's pro. Before you spend one more dollar on equipment, training aids or gadgets, invest in your Golf Body and see the amazing difference it can make in your game!

This complete program comes with:
1) The Golf Body 1 DVD (full 60-day Discovery and Development Program)
2) Bilateral Upper Body Resistance Bands
3) Mono-loop Lower Body Resistance Band
4) 65cm Fitness Ball (pump included)
5) Small Sport Ball (pump included)

The workouts are broken down into two phases, Discovery and Development.  This is similar to the book.  The first phase shows you were you are limited and prepares you for the second phase.  The second phase develops the strength and flexibility.  What the program does is improve strength in your core, legs and shoulders while increasing flexibility in your lower and upper body.  Joey D is a Physical Therapist and the exercises are similar to the therapy exercises I have done after knee and shoulder surgery.

If you do the program as directed, you get quite a workout.  I move through each exercise without pausing and work up quite a sweat.  The workout takes about 20-25 minutes including the dynamic warm-up.  I combine it with some other therapy exercises and weight workout for a total 45 - 50 minute workout.

Results:

I have been doing it for three months.  The first month is the development phase.  You work with the ball to primarily improve hip rotation and leg and lower back strength.  The resistance band works on shoulder rotation, rotator cuff, core and upper body separation from the lower body.  The Development phase builds on these exercises by making them a bit harder.  I have seen increase strength in my quads and core and increased flexibility in the upper and lower body.

The real test came when I went to Florida for a 4 day, 5 round golfing vacation.  I was stiff after the first round.  But each day I felt better and better.  The day we did 36, I felt surprisingly good.  By day four, I felt really good with no lower body tightness.  I am only two months into the Development phase and really feeling the difference.  I will keep it up the whole season and will most likely make it a permanent part of my workout routine.

The video on the page below shows some of the workout detail.

For some reason the video isn't loading from the page for me but I believe this is the video:

You got it!

To get back on topic, any updates now that you've had a full season with it?  BTW, which of these do you have: http://shop.joeydgolf.com/ ?

It is part of my normal workout routine. I do it on days I do weight training along with some PT exercises I do for my knees and shoulders. In the off season, it is three times a week. In season, one to two times per week. I add the weight work after it.

I made a lot of progress early on with flexibility and core strength. Now I am more in a maintenance level. I think others will see improvement in the first 30 to 90 days and then level off.

I also do core days where I take the core work in his workout and mix it in with other core work.

Very cool.

I'm looking to add some flexibility and am thinking of doing yoga and possibly picking this up.  I have a gym membership and wonder how cumbersome it would be to bring the balls to the gym and considering it's $130, I'm weighing how much I'd take them to the gym with me to use them.  It looks like he sells the DVD on it's own for $35 and the DVD with the two bands for $90 which might be more +EV.

the gym may have all the stuff you need, like the balls and resistance bands.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
