If you are logged into your eGolfer account, click on the Edit Profile menu item across the top of the page. Your GHIN number and gender will be displayed but cannot be edited. If you are not logged into your eGolfer account and need the number to create an account, please contact your club or golf association. They will be able to provide it to you.

Just looked up Diablo Golf, I don't think it is associated with GHIN, looks like it's just a handicap app. If that is all you use you don't have a GHIN number. You would have to join a club and start fresh.

is there an advantage to having a GHIN over another USGA associated club

Some tournaments won't recognize your handicap, even if it's considered USGA conforming simply because they only use GHIN and won't be able to look you up. I use GHIN and US Handicap for that reason. I play just one tournament a year with my step-dad. But I prefer US Handicap for stat tracking. GHIN is just $40 a year at my club so NBD.

This year it will be part of my membership. Talk to the pro shop at one of the courses you play. Some have cheap memberships that come with GHIN and some other perks. At our course for $188 we get GHIN, discounted tee times, range time and 10% discount in the restaurant and pro shop.

A long time ago, Diablo used to have something they called a recreational handicap.  If I remember right, they got into a big tiff with the USGA over it because they deemed it non-conforming to their standards and Diablo sued.

I believe that that's been resolved and they've done away with that product and now offer some type of e-golfer membership and conforming GHIN handicap.

Reading their FAQ page that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like you can import GHIN scores to Diablo but Diablo scores don't post to GHIN.

I have a buddy that plays on the GC Am Tour... they don't offer a GHIN handicap but they do have a handicap service (I can't remember which one). If you want to get an actual GHIN handicap you need to join a club that uses their service. I'd recommend joining the SCGA through GolfSouthernCal.com. You'll get an actual GHIN hcp, membership in the SCGA and a couple of other perks for just under $60.

I believe that @Golfingdad also plays the GC Am Tour so maybe he can shed some more light on this.

This is good advice. I get some pretty cool offers and opportunities from the Colorado Golf Association. Heck just getting the email notifications makes it worth it. I don't take advantage of anything but I can see how many would. We were offered pre-sale tickets to the one and only pro tournament coming to town this year.

You can also get a GHIN number through a local course.  I chose a course I play a lot an have my handicap through them.  They are associated with GHIN so I can post on line.

Mornin' fellas,

I am wanting to get a handicap index without joining a golf club. I am not financially able to join a club around where I live (college student) but I play most weekends. I have been invited to play in a few tournaments and they require a handicap index. Is there any way I can receive a handicap without joining a country club? Thanks in advance and hit 'em straight!

Correct. Most public courses have some sort of association you can join. When you join they will give you a GHIN#, at least that is how it works in my neck of the woods.

    • It’s simple. Hook it onto the tee box of the adjacent hole. Get a GIR with your approach. Birdie hole. #5 Hook it to the adjacent fairway Hit green with next shot. Birdie hole. I call it the Bill Method.
    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
