A 5 Simple Keys (Key #1) Question about my Chin and Shoulder

I have been looking at my swings that I filmed and I noticed that I have a problem with Key 1 (Steady Head).  I have watched a bunch of FO videos of PGA tour players and they all seem to tuck their chins into their shoulder on their backswings. Well when I take the club away I have a tendency to tuck my shoulder under my chin.  I was hoping someone could let me know if thats something I should change or if its ok? Im going to the range tomorrow and would like to work solely on Key 1. Any help would be great.

Can you clarify what you mean? I'm not sure I understand the differences between what you mean when you say "tuck my shoulder under my chin" versus "tuck their chins into their shoulder".

 

Your chin should be down slightly so you can look at the golf ball out of the center of your eyes, and your hips and torso turn on an inclined plane so that your front shoulder won't collide with your chin, but will go under it.

I guess I would say I lift my head to rotate my shoulders on my backswing. 

 

I don't know if its a big deal or not but I notice I tip my head up and I don't know why

What I'm seeing is when Adam turns his chin stays in one spot. When I turn I'm not saying in the same spot. I was wondering if maybe I'm setup wrong? I don't know. I just wanna keep moving in the right direction.

Notice when you finish your swing how your shoulders are pretty flat..? Then look at Adams shoulders, and see how his are at an angle, i.e.his right shoulder is pointing down. I don't see his chin tucked into his shoulder, I see his head in a position to be able to see the ball while looking straight at it.

I guess I don't mean tuck. It looks to me as if his chin stays in the same spot and mine moves out of the way of my shoulders. I watched the golf evolution YouTube videos and Erik's swing looks just like all the tour players. Head still and arms rotating around the head.

So what causes the flat shoulders? Any suggestions sir?

You lose your spine angle. The reason I know this, is because I did the same thing. I took a lesson from Mike/mvmac, and he corrected it. Now I hit my shots WAY better. There should be a vid to show a drill on 5ssk somewhere, or maybe Erik or Mike will see this and point you in the right direction.

Yes def agree it's a Key #1 issue for you.  Check out this pic

 

Note the green line, you're staying "flexed over" as you pivot.  Causes the head to translate off the ball.  Also note the green dots, your upper center has just moved too far to the right.

So I would start by making sure the feet are turned out about 20*, knees "bowed out" a little.  Will help with the next part...

Implement the feels described in this video.  Shoulders will feel like they work more like a teeter totter, right stretches up, left goes down.  Going to feel weird at first, like you're more "on top" of the ball, that's ok for now.

Thanks again Mike for the tip on keeping my knees bowed out. I went the range to and focused solely on the setup and turn you explained. Honestly I don't think I've ever hit so many solid iron shots. They weren't all on line but that's ok I'm more concerned about key 1.
