To make it brief, I have played in a 2-man net team event for the last 5 or 6 years with a good friend.  Last year we did not play because of our schedules and he only played one round all year.  I also play in a golf league (he is not in the league) and one of my good friends in the league wants to play in the tournament as partners this year and I as well.

My original partner also has a rotator cuff issue and unless he gets it fixed, it can buckle him to his knees. So if that doesn't get worked out, he can play a hole and be useless the rest of the round.

Have you ever been in this kind of situation?

I'd just honestly, and casually mention to him that the other guy had asked you to play. That you hope he doesn't mind, but knowing he's still on the DL for the rotator cuff and had only played one round all year, you were going to accept. I don't think a real friend would kick up a fuss over that at all.

He should understand, it's only this year and when his shoulder gets better it's you two again.
