Over the last year I've used my iPhone and video camera to capture footage of my golf swing out on the course BUT I'd like to look at something that has descent slow motion video capture and better resolution.

video from my iphone

Video from my video camera

The draw backs of either of these is it takes for ever to get the iphone propped up to take a video and neither of them has slow motion capture capability...plus I dont want either out when its a bit wet!

The one on top of my list is the hero go pro 3 but there are lots of complaints about that camera just stopping working for no good reason??? So the question is, what are you guys using out there to record video of your swing that has descent slow motion video capture capability?

Id be keen to mount something on my trolley so I could capture a round and then go through and analyse that round to help improve my game.

Thanks in advance.

I had thought the iOS7 upgrade was going to deliver slow mo capture and all the camera improvements to the iPhone 5 but was sadly, wrong! :(

Iphone just had to get a good FPS, and good resolution. Its going to be harder not to upgrade when I decide to get a new phone. :-P

Its the slow mo capability that Im really after. How is that in the 5s? I noticed on a friends Samsung Galaxy phone that it had a specific golf swing capture video mode so has anyone tried this?

Look @ the end of @iacas 's my swing thread. Or just YouTube iPhone 5S, plenty of examples. tl;dr great in low light, great overall.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Yeah, I dont really want to use a phone (as my current contract isnt up for a whole yet) but a proper dedicated camera so I can use it when its a bit wet and so on.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
