Explosion of women at the golf club.

I have noticed in the last five years that more and more women are joining our club. It is getting to be 50 percent of the membership  now so I am told buy other club members. Just thinking the infusion women must be the hottest marketing target in the golf industry.

Just as the snow boards have saved the ski resorts I would say women memberships are saving golf clubs. Any thoughts?

I came in here expecting to see a funny video of a woman going off on someone on the course, not a serious discussion.  How disappointing. ;-)

On to the topic.  I've never been in a club so I can't speak for that.  I do know that my home course has several women's leagues - 9 hole, 18 hole, working women, as well as several mixed leagues.  There is a regular set of women (not all the same group) who play almost daily.  We have one female teaching pro who teaches women and children exclusively, and she is almost always busy.  There are several women who regularly join with a couple of groups of mostly guys that I play with.  It's a great game for everyone.

Seems to be the case in many places based on the comments on this forum and others.

None of that has shown up in this area. I doubt if more than 1% of golfers I see on the course are women. I hope it spreads to this area because I work at a course and it's in my best interest for the amount of play to increase.

I told the course owner last week that maybe he should have a 9 hole couples scramble league on one afternoon a week and maybe have a carry in covered dish supper after the round. Women around here love that sort of thing even if they really don't play golf, and it would at least get their foot in the golfing door... And maybe start playing more.

Caught up to two foursomes yesterday, all women. But it was at CO National and they were lady Buffs out practicing. Holy crap they are good. Played from the same tees I did 6900 yards. I saw one hit a 300 plus yard drive on long par 5 playing downhill. All were on in reg at 633 yards. Winter conditions but still impressive. In general a lot of women at that course.

God I hate when the English teachers weigh in. Sorry I was a little hasty there. I will write  it 25 times on the chalk board.

Sounds like you got them well trained down there. I like the idea of the women bringing you dinner to the club after a hard days round of golf on the course. You would have a hard time of selling that one up here in Massachusetts LOL!

Okay, so I'm new to golf, and I noticed that there are a lot of women playing golf. I just figured it was a natural thing as it takes some athletic ability, thinking, patience and puts you in some nice garden like scenery.

Just seems a logical thing.

Most of the courses we play are set up for socializing. Football parties were big this year. Not uncommon to see the nongolfers in the family hanging around. Some days the volleyball courts are the place to be.

We even have a group of women who play bridge in the restaurant during times in the winter when the course is closed for snow.  If the course is open, they play golf.

I didn't say anything about the women bringing anybody anything. The last time I was in a couple's scramble the men did as much of the cooking as the women. The women just enjoyed the socializing more and looked forward to it all week.

OK I guess I misunderstood what you were saying sorry.  When you said you only had about 1% woman playing golf I just assumed that you were having them bring the food. Again my apologies.

Women, speciifcally college educated in the 35-60 year old age is the only segment in golf that is increasing participation, conversely the male segment in the same category is down, with rounds per year also declining. The women are/can be professional business people, that like the men enjoy it for business, as well as the low impact ( injury) of the game, and still get excercise. The kids have grown up and are ut of the house, middle age womens college loans have been paid off etc. According to industry reports. Over 5 million golfers have left the game since 2007 and of a greater concern is rapid decline of 18-34 year olds from playing golf for the first time. First tee is quite working, junior memberships are not working and not to place blame on one individual, but there has been the growth of young golfers, nor minorities coming nto the game that was widely predicted with Tiger Woods as result of him turning pro. Again I am not placing blame him, perhaps all of us n the industry felt it was going to happen and took our eye off problem.

More golfers, of either gender, are welcome.  I have not noted an increase in female golfers in SE Michigan.  In fact, the Women's City Golf Championship in our city was cancelled last year for lack of participation.  In year's past they might have had 50+ players enter.  In 2013 we had less than 10 sign up as of one week before the event.

I hadn't played for 15 or so years until this past summer when I picked it up again and, honestly, I can't say I've noticed any increase in women (or minorities in general for that matter) playing compared to back then. Just based on a purely casual observation, it does seem as though the "crustiness" factor is down considerably (ie. more "regular" guys out there playing), but that doesn't seem to have extended across gender/race (at least from what I've seen in our area). Again, all based on what I've observed and not backed up by any real data so take the comment above with a grain of salt.

      Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.

      Oh I'm dumb, I just noticed I did the MyStrategy from the wrong tee box. I don't think it changes anything, though. I'll play it as a three shot hole and I still don't really want to miss right (guy I played with on Sunday never found his ball he hit just over the trees right). I think the trees left are considered part of the environmentally sensitive area because it's part of the drainage area for the course. I actually like this hole a lot. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time. I probably overestimated the wind speed. We had sustained winds of like 12-15mph with gusts up to 25mph. The wind is actually forecast to be WNW on Saturday instead of WSW like was when I played on Sunday so if I play this hole again the wind will be pushing towards that bunker. Similar speeds, though. Wind is always a factor at this course because there's really nothing blocking it. I'm definitely going to have to pay attention to it, especially with the wind. I hit a handful of short iron approaches a lot farther than I thought I would on Sunday. As of right now the only thing I know for sure is I'm starting on Ridge. I don't know if the back 9 will be played on Meadow or Lake.

Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
