I love golf started playing last year. I got my best mate into it but he's given up and none of my other mates have any interest in golf. I end up going on my own most of the time which I don't mind but it's more fun with friends. I am getting pretty good now as well but I don't wanna be on my own ALL the time.

Even tried getting girlfriend into it but no chance.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes. My friends play golf like twice a year; I think I've played a round with them once in the last three years, and they quit after nine because they were hung over.

One of the greatest aspects of golf is the ability to meet complete strangers and form bonds. I've made new friends playing golf, and I've made friends with people I normally wouldn't be friends with because we have golf in common. One of my regular partners is a regular at a diner I used to work at. We started talking about golf one day, and eventually started playing together. Now, whenever I go out, he's the first person I call.

Well, at first none of my friends played golf but my son wanted me to play so we played together a few times. Within about a week a few guys came out to the 6th tee where we were getting ready to tee off and asked if they could join us. From that point on they were my friends and regular playing partners and, since I was always on the course, every friend I added after that was a golfer.

My wife decided at some point that if she ever wanted to see either me or our son anytime between daylight and dark she should start playing golf...So she did.

Get new mates!

I'm serious......when you go to play, ask to be paired with other groups, rather than playing alone.  You'll meet a lot of like-minded people and enjoy a social aspect to the game that you just can't get by playing alone.

Cheers for the advice guys lol. People have asked before if I want to tag a long when I first started but they were awesome and I could barely hit a ball 100 yards off the tee (usually a major slice or duff). I think now that I am more confident and consistent it will be easier to tag along with people.

Also when I join the club (be a member to get handicap) hopefully enter in tournaments and meet new people.

There is a long running thread on the site here that I read once in a while to sort of perform a "check-up from the neck-up":

http://thesandtrap.com/t/66756/i-hate-getting-paired-up-with-that-guy

There have been little things in this thread that I've seen in myself and that I've worked on to squash. I don't think that golfers are judged by others on their game, but on their response to their game.

Anyway, I agree with the others above, I've found regular, like minded playing partners from just getting paired up with them and enjoying a round together. At the end of the round, shake hands and say that you enjoyed the round and would they like it if you called/texted them next time you were going to go out  as a single.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

+1 on this post from @David in FL .  I can't remember a time when I did not have a good time playing with folks I've met on the course.  Even when I have played poorly.

When I first started I hated being paired with strangers, just made me self conscious and rigid, but now it's one of my favourite things about the game. I've had a ton of fun with random pairings.

If you play at the same time each time you go out, you'll find the same people playing. Back when I was able to play often, I went to the course at exactly the same time on the same days of the week. People I met were strangers at first, but we became regular playing partners after a while.

If your courses have volunteer rangers get to know them. My experience is they know all the regulars. Get in one of their games and you will meet other regulars.
