I may(will) never have a fraction of his wealth, but at least I don't have his hair :)
He has a divot on his head

It's no surprise that Trump snatched it up so quickly and for a rock-bottom price. If he hadn't got there somebody else would.

As others have pointed out, he has the resources and flamboyance to take Doonbeg (or that oh-so-modest long name that he's now going to call it) to a wider, wealthier audience. It's what he does best. We may not like it, but then not many of us are worth billions, are we!

You know if it was so rock bottom, why didn't one of the other 12 put a bid in? I think I am interested in owning a golf course too, pulling the trigger and buying it is another thing. I guess Trump will own Ireland and China will on USA

I have played Doonbeg several times and stayed at the Hotel there. It is an excellent facility, World Class in every respect. I'm glad Trump is saving it. It would be a terrible shame for it to disappear. I just hope he maintains the local flavor that helps make it so much fun.

Anyone who is fortunate enough to have the opportunity should play there.

(I don't much care for the new name, though).

Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg Ireland
February 25, 2014
Dear Owners & Members, It is an honor to have just become the new proud owner of what will soon be known as Trump International Hotel & Golf Links, Doonbeg, Ireland. As we all know, over the years Doonbeg has faced various hardships due to the financial constraints of previous developers as well as various storms which have caused significant damage to the property. Despite the past this property, with the largest dunes and finest hotel anywhere in Ireland, and with over 2 . miles of spectacular ocean frontage, has the potential to be one of the greatest golf resorts anywhere in the world - unrivaled in Ireland and far beyond. I have committed to investing many millions of dollars and the work has already begun! As you are aware, we have built some of the finest and most highly rated golf courses – Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles is rated “The #1 Course in the State of California” and “Top 100 Courses” by Golf Digest, Trump National Golf Club, Westchester is rated “The Best Course in Westchester County and Connecticut,” Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster is rated “The Best Course of the Millennium” by Golf Magazine and most recently Trump International Golf Links Scotland has been named by many, including George O’Grady and Sandy Jones, the chief executives of the European Tour and UK PGA respectively, as “perhaps the greatest golf course anywhere in the world.” At the same time, we have equally had amazing success with the Trump Hotel Collection, which is the fastest growing luxury hotel company. Trump International Hotel & Golf Links, Ireland marks our 12th hotel in the collection and will stand beside sister properties including Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, the #1 hotel in North America and Canada by Travel + Leisure, Trump International Hotel & Tower New York, the only Forbes Five-Star & AAA Five-Diamond hotel with a Five-Star, Five- Diamond & Three Michelin-Star Restaurant in the United States and many others. The collection has grown rapidly in the past year with the additions of Trump International Hotel, Washington D.C., Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver and Trump Hotel Rio de Janeiro - we are thrilled to now add Trump International Hotel & Golf Links, Doonbeg, Ireland to this prominent list. There has been tremendous public excitement and media attention surrounding my involvement in the property and most importantly I have received many letters from business leaders and community members praising us for our investment in Ireland. We are committed to making Doonbeg among the finest golf resorts in the world and truly look forward to bringing out the potential of this club - something that you, as members and owners, deserve. In the following days, our team will be distributing additional information as well as new membership documents which will entitle you to privileges at our other highly ranked golf clubs and hotel properties. My sons, Don & Eric, will be visiting this week and look forward to meeting each of you personally. I will be playing in the Great Irish Links Challenge tournament in May and look forward to seeing you at Trump International Hotel & Golf Links, Doonbeg, Ireland very soon. With Best Wishes, Donald J. Trump

he's so humble....

Funny, most of the guys I know who golf, refuse to play at his course here in so. Cali. nice  course, but not worth the money they ask, i.e. up to 280.00 per round.

Donald Trump is a major ass. The fact that he likes golf makes him slightly more tolerable.

Watch this space, I have a feeling that there will be another Trump owned golf course in Ireland in another month or so, if not sooner.

It's not the Portmarnock Golf Course (Old) that you may well know, it's another course on the same stretch of land and is a very similar course (and not too far behind the quality of more prestigious course imo.)
