Pro's throwing putters in air after missed putt..

One thing that is really grinding my gears at the moment is Pro's launching their putters into the air after missing a putt.. It seems to be happening more these days..

Often they end up dropping it and damaging the green, I watched Jordan Speith do it last week and he hardly repaired the damage, this may sound petty but if someone did that on my HOME course and damaged the green I would tell them to show some bloody respect.

I wince every time they do it..

Anyone else this way inclined? To me just shows a lack of respect and I would never do it..

I agree that it's kind of ridiculous for a pro to do it. You would hope that they would be able to control their emotions a bit better. But they are playing for more money than most of us will ever see and are extremely competitive (they have to be to make it to that level) so I understand getting frustrated and letting the putter fly once in a while.

Now, if I saw some hack at a local course or my club doing that and damaging the green, I wouldn't be very pleased. It's been said a million times....you aren't good enough to get mad!

At least when Day did it, he fixed the damage to the green with his ball mark tool - never seen anybody else bother to do that

It isn't like the high handicap hot head on the course who tries to whack his ball across the green after missing a putt, chunking it and leaving a nice gash in the green.

Yea I like to see emotion out of golfers more often. One reason I like watching the Ryder Cup, the pro's really get pumped up and show some life on the course.

I agree, what Day didn't wasn't a danger to anyone but himself.  I like seeing some emotion too so prefer a reaction over a stoic stare.  He also repaired the damage, so non-issue in my book.

File this one under "Much about nothing", they can get a little slack

I would prefer they not do it because other people get the impression that it's okay and copy it. I see greens with damage that was obviously caused by a putter way too often.

The fact that they are playing for a living doesn't excuse it to me. I don't think any boss I ever had would excuse tearing up equipment, or acting unprofessional, when things don't go well just because I was doing that job for a living.

My own son drives me nuts when he thinks he's Tiger Woods and lets go of the club after a bad tee shot, but he's too old to spank.

Nothing petty about it.  They are just exercising their right to act like jerks.  And setting a terrible example for any younger golfers watching.  Every time something like this comes up, I lose more interest in watching them play.  My interest is almost down to zero now.

I'm not sure whats worse, tossing a putter, or slamming a iron or fairway wood into the ground and breaking the club. IMHO, pros need some control, they can be emotional to an extend.

I saw John Daly throw his mis-behaving wedge over the fence and into the cabbage after he duffed two short chips.  I had a small concern for any  on-lookers not to get bonked.,  Actually, i was also tempted to run over and grab the club for my own  bag.  Is that stealing?

No slack for the pros!

Tossing, throwing, or slamming a club is disrespect for the game, the course, the public, and is childish. Not the kind of behavior I expect from a sportsman, a gentleman (a pro or even a "hacker")!

Suck it up...

YOU blew the shot. Neither the club, the course, your competitors, the gallery or the moon and stars suck - YOU DO.

Accept it and move on.

Doesn't bother me too much. I guess I'd rather not see it, but as others have said, not at the expense of seeing no emotion at all from them.

Yeah, I don't care.  It shows they care.  I also don't think I've ever actually seen them miss it on its way down, and if they did, I could not imagine that they wouldn't repair any damage to the green.

The only one I can picture in my head that I thought was a bit iffy was a video I've seen a bunch of times of a young Jack Nicklaus throwing his putter (waaaaaaay) into the air celebrating a victory.  It's funny because the video never shows the putter come back down, so as far as I know, his playing partners caddy was murdered that day. ;)
