If I practice on the range and practice green everyday will I see significant improvement?

I am a junior and there is a range nearby! If I went everyday and practiced for an hour or two would I see an improvement? I have been stuck at this handicap for a long time and have had some lessons! The lessons have really helped but would practicing everyday be the way to go? Please reply! Thank you! (Any other advice would be much appreciated) a1_smile.gif

No doubt that you would see improvement! However, this is only if you practice correctly and the right things!

So, if you go practice putting for an hour each day, don't expect to see much improvement!

I'll find the thread about practicing specific, slowly snd correctly to help change your full swing to be the one that will help you score better!

To answer your question, you would probably see some short term improvement because you're hitting more balls. To keep improving and get the most out of your practice I would recommend doing this

 

 Simple, Specific, Slow, Short, and Success - The Five "S"s of Great Practice

Hi Jacob, welcome to the site. 

 

In addition to the thread that Mike mentioned, try the 5Sk Video thread and Hitting the Driver on the Upswing Thread -- valuable.

 

You also need feedback when you practice -- try the CamCaddy for holding a smartphone on a stick and taking video if you don't have a high speed camera w/ tripod.

 

If you don't have video, you'll tend to make the same mistakes over and over and over, ingraining them. Don't do that...get feedback.

Welcome to the site.

As these guys said, if you are hitting balls for 2 hours a day, I would imagine you will definately see improvement, but to get the best out of your practice, make sure you are practicing with a purpose.

Remember hitting 50 balls, taking your time, and practicing drills is better than 200 as fast as you can hit them.

I have a practice area in my basement. I rarely hit more than 15-20 balls in a 45 minute session. Lots of rehearsal swings, check the video, rehearse some more, hit a ball. Rinse and repeat.

 

It's a LOT harder to maintain that discipline at the range with a 60 ball bucket and a wide open field to hit them into. That's one of the advantages of practicing with a net, less temptation to just hit them as far and fast as you can.

What is your handicap? If 30, should see results right away, if 2, may be awhile.

One word of advice:  Don't worry if you go through periods where the handicap doesn't drop, or even goes up.  There are ebbs and flows even when you are practicing correctly, and it's not going to simply be a situation where you see consistent linear improvement.  One month you might drop 2 shots off your handicap, and the next month 3, but then the next month it goes back up 2.  When that happens, don't give up.  Remember that it's a process, or a journey, with ups and downs, and you just have to keep plugging along and enjoy it. :)  Good luck!!

As @Abu3baid and other have said, you have to practice properly--meaning with purpose and not just hitting buckets of range balls.

For example, you don't have to follow my routine but this is what I do at the range:

For EVERY SHOT...

  I start with my preshot routine.  That means stepping back, picking out a target, and an aiming point that is about a foot in front of the ball.

  Setting up: check my alignment, grip, and my posture.

  Backswing: focus on full shoulder turn

  Downswing: focus on leading with the lower body.

  Finish: always try to hold with my right toe pointed straight up and down and all my weight on my left side.

 

Takes me about 1 hour to go through a medium size (40 balls) bucket.
