Hello all new to the site. I'm new to club making besides replacing grips I have done many. I recently got a good deal on some new speedblades with now I realized steel stiff shafts. My old clubs were burner 2.0 with graphite shafts in reg flex. I traded some work for these clubs so don't have much in them. I noticed yesterday that they are a stiff flex. Going from graphite to steel didn't bother me to much but the stiff flex does in my head. I don't know why I didn't see it sooner. I'm not a low handicap golf nor do I have a fast swing speed. What my question is. will it make that much difference on these shafts or should I switch to a reg flex graphite shaft like I had? I've only played with them 4 times and it was 4 days in a row. They did feel a little different but it was also the first time out this year. i don't put allot of stock in the results due to it was the first time out. if you think it would be a benefit to change what type of shafts and the best place to get them. On the other hand would it be more money than its worth for the benefit. please help. If a change is warranted I will be doing the work myself got to start sometime.

Welcome to the site.  There will be a big difference between reg graphite and stiff steel depending on the steel shaft.  Do you know what shaft it is?  There are steel shafts that are closer to graphite.  Have you ever been fitted for clubs?  If you go to a good fitter, you can try out different shafts and then they can put in the most appropriate shaft for you.  It shouldn't cost too much either and you will be very happy with the results.

Its tough to say. Each clubhead performs different than the previous. How that performs also is related to the shaft put in the club. You already bought them, might as well just play with them and see if you like them or not. If you don't trade them in and get a new set, next time get fitted.

Those are light.  I would do what @saevel25 suggests.  Take them for a spin and see how they compare to your current clubs.  Ultralight steel shafts can behave a lot like graphite.

From xperience of playing Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons. I found the Taylormade shafts to be about 1 flex lighter than they say. I played stiff and they frequency measured as regular. Though that was with a clubhead on. So not sure how that effects a frequency measurement.

In the last few years I have owned about 10 sets of irons, all steel shafts, some regular flex and some stiff flex.

I can feel an enormous difference between the regular and the stiff flex.

My swing speed is ok, so it's not a question of distance, for me it's a question of FEEL.

Even though I can get good distance from both flexes, for me hitting an iron with a regular flex shaft produces a much nicer feeling.

That's just me.

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
