Can I use a 50 compression ball with a 100mph swing?

Hey guys, I've always used a softer ball due to a slower swing speed. Since I have been taking lessons, my swing speed with my irons has gone from 68mph to 80mph and with my driver it has gone from 85mph to 100-105mph.

I've become very accustomed to Wilson Staff 50 Elite and Srixon Soft Feel balls. Now, would it be counter-productive for me to use softer balls since my swing speed has increased so much? Should I use a ball better suited for my swing speed or would a softer ball really make no difference in maximizing my distance of the tee and control with my irons. What do you think, stick with the softer ball or try balls with a higher compression rating?

Fit your ball around feel first IMO. If you've grown accustomed to how softer balls feel, it can be very difficult to use a firmer ball for putting, chipping and pitching, which are arguably more important than any other aspect of your game. FWIW, 100mph isn't really fast enough to have any compression issues on most golf balls anyway.

Thanks. You're absolutely right about short game and putting. I've grown very accustomed to softer balls.

You may be giving up some significant distance in your full swing.

There are a lot of very soft, Urethane covered balls out there now that combine good distance with soft feel.  Until you try some different options, you can't know what really works best for you.

The next time you are on the course hitting a 5 iron, throw down a second ball with higher compression and see if there is a significant difference in ball flight and distance. Do the same for the driver. Sometimes the low compression golf balls are designed to have a very high trajectory so you might find that they balloon on you with a higher swing speed. I also use the 50 Elite but have never had a problem with ballooning even if I put extra power into a swing.

I'm thinking about trying Srixon Q-Star. I really like the Soft Feel balls from Srixon, they're excellent quality so I think I'll keep going with Srixon. I know that I mentioned Wilson but what is a quality higher compression ball from them? C:25?
